Hi I'm Valerie

I'm a wife. I'm a mother. I'm a business owner. I'm a Speech/Language Pathologist. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born into a home with limited religious teachings. My parents are awesome and loving people, and did the best they could with what they knew. During the terminal illness and after the death of my sister when I was barely 16 and she was almost 10, I struggled to find peace and joy in my life. I thought I had found that joy when I married a man of my same faith. However, after years of emotional and physical abuse, alcohol, pornography, and adultery, I ended the marriage becoming the single custodial parent of two young children. I learned the hard way that I didn't know how to see through deceit and see the true character of an individual. With that, I determined to do all that I could to be worthy of guidance from my Heavenly Father whom I believe knows his children as good or better than we know ourselves. I knew I needed to keep the commandments, pray and read my scriptures to receive answers to my prayers. It took 5 years after leaving my ex husband to find that special someone. Fear would set in that he wasn't whom he seemed when we were apart or I wasn't in prayer - but always when I prayed about him or was in his presence, I felt a special spirit of peace. I married him in 1999. He became a Mormon just weeks before I met him! Our Mormon faith teaches us to put family first, to be honest, clean, respectful, prayerful and to read the scriptures. I have never been happier in my life and I firmly believe these teachings are the reason!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I believe that a loving Heavenly Father would not send his children into a confusing world with no hope for many of them to find His church, be baptized and saved. My church is the only one I know of that provides a way for all to be baptized if they choose to through temple ordinances. I am a Mormon because I believe that my Savior atoned for my sins and that through Him, I can be saved. I also believe that I am expected to make choices to do what is right in order to receive the highest rewards possible. I am a Mormon because I believe that Heavenly Father has provided a beautiful blessing to all His children. Being a mother, I can't believe a loving Heavenly Father would be any other way. I also believe that there are different blessings provided for His children depending on how valiant they choose to be. I am a Mormon because I believe in the gift of free agency and I am taught to not believe my leaders blindly, but to study the scriptures, pray and get my own answer about truths and how I should be living my life. I am a Mormon because I feel peace that I didn't have before I was converted to the gospel and that I never want to be without again.

How I live my faith

I am actively involved in my community serving in the Boy Scouts of America and helping out at our church girl's camp this year. Last year, my husband and I helped put on a pioneer trek for over 500 people. I have served for close to 4 years as the president of our church women's organization of 120 women providing compassion and welfare for those in need. I have taught lessons, shared my musical talents, given inspirational talks. I visit with other members in my area monthly sharing messages and giving compassion and encouragement to others. I am actively involved in my children's education by volunteering in classrooms, serving on the PTA board, and helping with many different activities. I believe strongly that anything not good for my children's bodies isn't good for my own. I love that my church teaches the same standards. Consequently, not putting coffee, tea, alcohol, tobacco, pornography, or anything found to be addictive in or on my body makes sense to me and is something I am proud to live by. I strive to be clean in my speech, dress, and actions and believe that I have peace in my life knowing that I am doing my best to be this way. I believe that by living this kind of life, I have saved myself a whole lot of heartache and health problems.
