Hi I'm Parker

I grew up in Tucson, Arizona. I will be serving a mission in Vancouver, Washington. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have a lot of hobbies. I've done a lot of novel writing. I've never actually finished one, though. I stopped sharing my literature because, well, I get people hooked, and then I don't finish the book. I also know how to compose music. I've been classically trained, but I can also compose other genres. I've been in choirs and taken a couple of years in piano. I also have notebooks that hold a lot of my thoughts about how the world works -- It's fun to think about. In my future, I plan to have a very successful career where I affect the world around me. I enjoy helping people through their struggles and hardships. I like the moment when a solution is found, and people feel a lot better about what they were going through. I like feeling like people's potential isn't being held back as much, and they're closer to what they're meant to be.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon for many reasons; there's a lot of benefits. It really is the best church; it's very fun, yet it's very respectful; it's family-oriented, and it's something that I can consistently trust. I've been able to trust my "bishop," the leader of my congregation. A huge blessing from being a Mormon is having opportunities to make friends that I can trust. I also am able to trust in principles. I also have gained a lot of comfort and strength from recognizing God's sacrifice for my sins, mistakes, and hardships. I know that he has suffered and died because I have felt my sins be wiped cleaned. Through following the steps of having faith, then asking for forgiveness, being baptized, and then receiving the Holy Ghost, I have felt a true change of character. What's more amazing is that the more I apply it the more I get out of it.

How I live my faith

I love to help people to live closer to God. I like to help my friends have less worries through knowing that God has it handled. Talking and being there for people is how I try to show God's love and follow Jesus' command to love one another. I've also had the opportunity to be in a group of church-going guys. Through six years of being with them, I've been able to serve families and serve my friends there, too. I've also enjoyed the opportunity to be a role model for younger boys my age in this church group. I am also serving a mission to serve the Lord and bring others closer to Christ. I have seen how living the commandments and rules God has given us has led many of my own family members and many of my friends to have happier, more peaceful lives.

What is the priesthood?

The priesthood is the "authority to act in God's name." With the priesthood and only with the priesthood, men have the authority to baptize, give blessings, and lead God's church. I relate the priesthood to a government. You can't, for example, become a citizen of a country without going to someone that has the proper authority to give you citizenship in that country. You can't use the power vested in a government unless you have permission from that government to do so. You can't lead a government unless you have the authority to do so. Similarly, God gives authority, called priesthood, to people so that they can do God's work here on earth. They are under an obligation to serve others and be loving, gentle, and kind. While very few people in countries have the authority to act in the name of government, it is a privilege that all worthy men in the Church can have the priesthood. Show more Show less

What is the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon is a book about a people in ancient America called the "Nephites." The history of the Nephites was abridged by a man named Mormon after the utter destruction of his people. His son, Moroni, took the plates after his father's death, wrote a few more things, and then buried the plates. Guided by inspiration and an angel, Joseph Smith Jr. eventually found the plates and translated them through God's power. The Book of Mormon tells about a family escaping from Jerusalem during one time that Jerusalem was destroyed (around 600 B.C.). Lehi and his family were led to America by God, much like the Israelites were led by Moses, who was led by God. They came to America, taught their children about Jesus Christ. Answers to why we are here, why there is suffering, and why Adam and Even needed to partake of the fruit are all given in the book. There was also a historical account where the Nephites became more and more wicked, eventually leading to earthquakes and other natural disasters that destroyed the cities. After this destruction, Christ came in resurrected form and taught them. He visited them again and again, but eventually, they became wicked; they had wars with their enemies that led to their ultimate destruction. Unique to the Book of Mormon is a promise. If you pray to know if the Book of Mormon is true and do it with a sincere desire, the Holy Ghost can tell you if it is a true record. Show more Show less
