Hi I'm Amanda Burrows

I have lived in three states. I want to become an author. I am a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Amanda. I live in Arizona, but I grew up in Nevada. I love being outdoors. I come from a big ranching family even though we don't raise cattle or horses anymore. I do about everything. I am an avid reader. I read about almost anything. My favorite authors are Clive Cussler and Anita Stansfield. I am the oldest of four and the youngest is three. I love the snow and I love to sing. I am a good cook and love to hang out with friends.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born in a strong Mormon family. We went to church every Sunday. We had family home evening, family prayer, and family scripture study. When I was ten years old, my grandmother passed away. She was my best friend and she was never afraid to share her testimony about the gospel with me. That shook my faith in the church at first because I couldn't understand why she had to go and I was very angry with Heavenly Father. Well, two years later my parents got a divorce and I began to ask if the gospel was true or not. I would sit in my room for hours just praying for Heavenly Father to make the pain go away because I felt so hurt and sad all the time. Everything I had ever known was being torn from me and I didn't know what to do. I turned to the only thing that I knew could help me as a last resort. One night I sat in my room crying trying to make sense of what was happening. I picked up my Book of Mormon and I read 1 Nephi, chapter 1, verse 1. In this verse, I was reminded that I had goodly parents and that my Father in Heaven was aware of me and my situation. I was also reminded that I had been taught how to get through my trial. I had the scriptures, prayer, and a loving church family. I learned at that moment in time how much my Savior loves me. Without the Book of Mormon and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, I don't know who I would be today.

How I live my faith

I love change and the gospel allows me to change all the time. I am always trying to be a little bit better everyday. I believe in loving everyone because I know what it feels like to not be loved and to feel alone. The gospel helps me to be happy even on those days when I feel grumpy and mean.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Amanda Burrows
The atonement is real. Jesus Christ not only died so that we could come back to Heavenly Father, but also for us to be able to use it now. Heavenly Father knows everything about and especially what we are going through. The Atonement can also help us be able to take all of our burdens that we have and hand them over to him and say I can't do this alone. I need your help. We can't go through life alone. Heavenly Father is there for us and he wants us to be happy. He wants to help us. We just need to ask. Show more Show less

Why is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called Mormons or Mormonism?

Amanda Burrows
It was a nickname that was given to the Saints because we believe in the Book of Mormon. The correct name for the church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. This name reminds us that we believe in Jesus Christ and strive to follow his example so that we may return and live with our Heavenly Father again. Show more Show less
