Hi I'm Kim

I'm a mom. I'm a wife. I'm a school guidance counselor. I'm a foster parent. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

The most important part of my life is being a mother and a wife. My family brings me my biggest joys and trials. I also work full time as a school guidance counselor. I love working with kids. I feel blessed not only to help shape the future of my own children, but to do this with other children as well. It sometimes is a struggle as a mom working full time. I miss the time away from my children. Sometimes I feel pulled in too many directions. But I know my own children have learned from me the value of hard work and I make sure spending time with my children is a high priority. I know my children are learning how each of us can have an impact on other people's lives.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. When I was in high school, there weren't many Mormons in my school. Mostly everyone knew I was a Mormon and some people made fun of me and all the 'rules' I had to follow. My peers told me I was too constricted by these rules and that I didn't have any freedom. I watched these peers partying, drinking, and making bad moral decisions. Some of them ended up pregnant, in abusive relationships, and pregnant. I on the other hand was able attend college and go on to have a great future with a wonderful man. Over the years I have often thought how these 'rules' that everybody thought was so constricting actually gave me more freedom than my peers. I belong to this church because it makes me feel good. I know I am loved and I am happy.

How I live my faith

I have been working with young women between ages 12-18 for several years. We have activities each week. These activities include service projects, self-improvement goals, and sometimes just having fun unwinding time. I also get to teach lessons on Sundays to these girls. One of my favorite parts of working with the youth is the energy I get from them. I am supposed to be teaching them, but I think I learn the most. Oftentimes I hear people talking about where society is headed and the worries about the future. If people had a chance to work with the girls I work with, they wouldn't worry so much about the future. When I look at the youth I work with, I know the future is in good hands. There are a LOT of great kids out there who need mentors. I feel blessed every day to work with these young women!
