Hi I'm Mitch Gillespie

I am a sports enthusiast, track runner, Italian food lover, and thrill seeker. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Fort Worth Texas, after which I moved to Riverton Utah. After living there for about 7 years I moved to Reno, Nevada, where I attended all of middle school and high school. I played football and baseball at the varsity level in high school, and was a major part of a state championship club baseball team. I quit baseball after my junior year of high school and took up track, where I had a ton of success. I traveled all over to meets in Oregon, California, and other places. I was also invited to run in the Arcadia invitational, one of the most prestigious high school track meets in the nation. After high school I attended Brigham Young University where I just finished my first year. I also had the opportunity to walk on to the BYU track team. I really enjoyed being at BYU and being surrounded by so many people who have the same values and beliefs that I do. The spirit is so strong there and it is an amazing environment to learn in. I have my mission call to Xalapa, Mexico, and I report to the Provo MTC August 7th. I have had some struggles getting to this point and it has not been easy, but now that I am here the joy that I feel is amazing. That is why I am going on a mission, so I can bring that same joy to others. I have been waiting all my life for this opportunity to serve The Lord, and I plan on making the most of it that I can.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that this gospel is true. I know that Joseph smith was a prophet, and that God himself and Christ visited him in the sacred grove, and instructed him on how to restore The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on this earth. I also know that we have a prophet living on the earth today, who speaks to us and gives us instructions. My faith has not always been perfect, and I have had my doubts, but there is no possible way that I could deny miracles that I have experienced first hand and the overwhelming feeling of the spirit that I have felt so strongly on so many occasions. And the extreme amounts of joy that I experience when I a living in harmony with God's commandments further testifies to me of the truthfullness of this gospel.

How I live my faith

In the past I have had callings in the church such as Sunday school teacher, and other similar positions. But the main way that I live my faith right now is by preparing to and serving a mission. For the next two years of my life starting on August 7th 2013 I will be down in Xalapa Mexico teaching others about the gospel of Jesus Christ and serving them in any way that I can.
