Hi I'm Gary

I was baptized at the age of 19. That makes me an active member of the church for the past one-half century!

About Me

I am a retired chemistry and physics high school teacher, the father of 5 amazing sons, the grandfather of 12 amazing grandchildren, and especially the husband of a totally amazing and beautiful wife for 50 years.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the church at the age of 19. My conversion story involves the young lady who eventually became my wife. We met in the 4th grade and it was almost "love at first sight" for me. She was a member of the LDS faith and I was not. We dated during our high school years and became very serious about getting married after graduation. She had committed many years before to only marry in the LDS temple. I investigated the church several years but just before graduation reached a point where I was not able to commit to meeting with the missionaries and get serious about the church. We broke up and went our separate ways. Months later I realized that she was still the love of my life and we got together again. I was fully committed to meeting the missionaries this time and in a couple of weeks was baptized. To be married in the temple I had to be a member for at least one year. This policy allowed me time to learn about the church and its teachings as well as become acquainted with the culture of Mormonism. I learned quickly and progressed in my understanding of the Gospel and the role of modern day prophets. I was ready to enter the temple on our wedding day and marry the love of my life and begin the adventure that continues to this day. I am a Mormon because I have found it to be a rewarding, love-filled, and service opportunity-filled life It has enriched my life personally and our family's lives as well. I have a strong testimony of the truthfulness of the Gospel as taught in the LDS faith. This testimony is built on years of service, experience, and spiritual manifestations. I love the church and I love the Savior.

How I live my faith

My years in the church have been filled with joy, learning, some sorrow, and the great opportunity to become acquainted with fantastic people of many backgrounds and ideas. My service opportunities have involved administering, teaching, and most importantly reaching out to others of our faith and of other faiths to share my feelings of the gospel and how I have striven to come closer to my Savior and friend, Jesus Christ.

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

I have great faith that this doctrine is true. My life is enriched and blessed by my family. I want to spend eternity with them all. It would not be heaven if I was not with my wife!! Show more Show less

Mormons believe Jesus Christ is their Savior. Why do we need a Savior?

All of us have transgressed in some way. We cannot be saved in our sins but we can be saved from our sins. That is called the Atonement. Jesus Christ atoned for our sins and paid the price of our transgressions if we will only repent and strive to be more like Him. That is why we need a Savior. Show more Show less
