Hi I'm Chris

I grew up in Southern California. I love to play sports. I have been called to serve in Guatemala. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to play the piano, I have a passion for poetry, I am a runner, and I love to have adventures and have a good time. Oh, I'm Peruvian too. I am attending BYU but am putting that off for two years to serve the people of Coban in Guatemala beginning August 7. As everyone has, I've had to fight my inner demons but I have turned my weaknesses into strengths.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church and I kind of just went through the motions for most of my life thus far. Like I went, did what I had to, then went home without giving what I heard much thought. But when I was about 16, my Young Men's President was teaching a lesson on Sunday. My eyes were opened at that time when he said something along the lines of, "stop clinging to your parents' testimonies. You are old enough and it's about time you find out for yourself if this church is true." The other two guys in that class, along with myself really took that into heart. We started focusing on our callings in the church more and the three of us grew together, helping each other and having fun with it. One day I was sitting with them talking about where our lives could have been if we didn't have the Church. Let me just say it did not look good. I'm glad we had this and I intend on holding onto this [the Gospel] forever. I have found out for myself through study and prayer that this is indeed the true church. I have taken Moroni's challenge and knew the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon through the Holy Ghost. Life has been crazy, but this church has been the big thing keeping me sane. There's an analogy that I absolutely love. It relates life to a hurricane and our Savior, Jesus Christ, as the eye of the storm. "The storms of life may rage all around you here on earth, but you are given peace and can even rejoice, because you are with Him and in Him.” I know that this church is true and that Jesus is my Savior. I love Him and will forever be grateful for His sacrifice. I am especially grateful that I can repent of my sins through the Atonement. I say these things in the name of jesus Christ, Amen.

How I live my faith

Growing up in church I had a few friends my age, but they were always busy with their lives. I made friends with a few of the younger ones and now they and several others look up to me as an example. So no pressure, right? I need to be their example, but also I need to be the best me I can be. I love to serve people and it brings a smile to my face when people tell me they appreciate what I do for the younger kids and for a lot of other people in the ward. Also I am an Eagle Scout and a lot of the younger kids have looked at that especially and aspire to be up in the ranks with me in the Scouting program.

What is being a Mormon like?

It's great, but not easy. Sure there are a lot of rules/restrictions, but it really is for our benefit towards the pursuit of happiness and eternal joy. You should try it out. Show more Show less
