Hi I'm Kyra O'Brien

I'm a family girl, a traveler, a dreamer, and I'm a Mormon

About Me

I am an adventurous, fun, loving, crazy, family loving, ice cream craving young woman. I love traveling and new experiences. My family is always number one in my life... though food is a very close second ;) wanna make me happy? Give me some ice cream and take me somewhere new.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born to an amazing mother who taught me about prayer from a young age, but it wasn't until my Grandma came down and took me to church that I realized there is so much more to this beautiful life. When we were about 10 we moved to Utah and stopped going to church but I found an unusual pull to the temple. I didn't know what it was but I felt comfort in knowing it was there. My amazing friends never failed at asking if I wanted to come to church or the activities, but, although I knew pretty much everyone who went, I refused to go. It wasn't until I realized that these friends just loved me that I decided to go. As soon as I went I desired learn more. I remember feeling like the things the missionaries were saying were familiar, as if I heard it all before. I was baptized when I was 12. A year later my best friend died. I told my mom I wanted to blame God, and she said, "How can you blame Him, when He's the one who gave you 9 years with her?" I remember the missionaries telling me about the Plan of Salvation and how I would be able to see her again, IF I lived worthily. I decided then to live the gospel to the best of my ability and I have never felt such peace and comfort... and as I live the gospel I have found that no matter what life throws, THIS is where true peace and comfort and hope comes from: Through our Savior, Jesus Christ and the ordinances needed to make it back to our Father in Heaven.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by being true to my standards. This world is getting crazier by the second, but I find extreme peace in knowing Christ loved all and spent time with everyone and was still true to the commandments. So that is what I strive to do, to love everyone I can, while staying true to my standards. I am also serving by taking 18 months to fully dedicate myself to preaching the gospel to the wonderful people in Georgia and South Carolina. Fully dedicated means being away from my family and friends and not working or going to school. For 24 hours and 7 days a week, I focus on how I can help others find peace and joy through living Christ's teachings.
