Hi I'm Brandon

I grew up in Utah and was raised in the LDS Church. I plan on entering into the medical field to help people.

About Me

So here are a few things about me: I love rock climbing and other sports like track and football. I enjoy the rush of the action and connecting with other people through athletics. I also love helping other people and that's why I want to work in the field of medicine. I have done internships at clinics and I enjoy helping people feel better. I was a good student in school and enjoyed taking hard classes. Why would I do such a thing? Well, I love a good challenge and I love to learn. I plan on attending college to become a nurse and from there I hope to be in medical school.

Why I am a Mormon

So why am I a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints? I was born and raised in the church for all my life and it's been a wonderful life. The LDS Church is a church of happiness and it's a place to protect families from the cruel and harsh world we live in today. It's a church where I can learn more about myself and what God has in store for me. I may be young, but I know it makes a difference. I've seen this gospel change people for the good. They're much happier and living an easier life. Some people say that religion holds you down, that's not true. It creates many opportunities and helps people live easier lives. I love the LDS Church and it is the most special thing to be a part of. I have a testimony that Jesus is the Christ and that this is His church on the Earth today. God loves each and every one of us and wants us to be truly happy and return back to Him when we pass from this life.

How I live my faith

My community is very small. Like, really, really, small! I love it, however, because you get to enjoy the quietness of the mountains. Since we live in such a small community, neighbors are constantly helping neighbors. In my youth group, we would always do service projects like rake leaves, clean parks, clean cemeteries, and other projects. While I was in high school, the community was very supportive with athletic events, club activities, service projects, and so much more! Along with serving others I enjoy reading the Scriptures, like the Bible and the Book of Mormon. I love learning what God has in store for each and every one of us.

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

Jesus Christ suffered for each of us so we can become clean and become something more than we thought possible. This is grace and we are indeed saved by grace. Even though we are saved by grace there is still much more to do. I learned about grace through a simple analogy: So lets say your mother wants you to become a wonderful pianist. She pays the piano teacher, in full, so you can start to learn how to play the piano. Can we ever pay Mom back? No, we can not. So what can we do for her? We can practice and learn and become a great pianist. Yes, we will make mistakes but that's part of the learning process. So how does this tie into grace? Jesus Christ paid, in full, for our sins. He paid the price so we can learn to become like Him. Through His grace we can be forgiven of our mistakes and we can continue to learn how to be perfect like He is. It takes work on our part but as we work and practice we can become something more. Show more Show less

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

We believe that the Bible is Holy Scripture and that it is indeed the word of God. I personally love the New Testament! The Bible is another witness that Jesus is the Christ. The Bible also shows that we have a loving Heavenly Father and that He wants what is best for us. I know that the Bible is a great benefit to us. I also know that the Book of Mormon, another book of scripture, supports the Bible and is also a great benefit to our lives. Show more Show less

What is faith?

Faith is to hope for things that are not seen. We all practice faith in one form or another such as: hoping to get a good grade on a test; to find a spouse; or that we will get back home safely. These are a few examples of faith. We can't see into the future and see if these events will happen but you hope that they will. That's what faith is. Faith in God and Jesus Christ are very similar. We can't see them but we can hope that they are there. We can increase our faith by doing several things. We can study the scriptures, pray to Heavenly Father, attend Church services, keep the commandments, serve others, and many more things. As we do things I know that our faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ will increase. Show more Show less

What is the priesthood?

The priesthood is the authority given to man to act in God's name. This authority has been given to men throughout the ages. Men like Moses, Abraham, Noah, and many other prophets of God held this authority. Jesus Christ also had this authority when He came to the Earth and with this authority He was able to produce many miracles. This same authority resides in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The priesthood is given to the Earth once again to preform ordinances so we can become closer to our Heavenly Father. With this priesthood, the sick and the afflicted can also be healed and those who are struggling can receive counsel and direction. Priesthood holders must be morally worthy and must follow the example of Jesus Christ. Show more Show less

What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

A testimony is a special witness that you receive from the Holy Ghost. It is a knowledge of what you come to know is true through prayer, reading the scriptures, and listening to the Holy Ghost. Gaining a testimony takes acts of faith. As we act on our faith our testimonies will grow and we will personally come to know if certain things are true. I know that as I have acted on faith I have gained knowledge and have come to know things are true. I know that there is a God and that He loves each of us. He cares about us and as we act on faith in Him we will come to know that He is there. Show more Show less

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

You should first know that you have a Father in Heaven that loves you more than you can imagine. He is always there for you and He cares deeply about you. We are, indeed, His Spiritual Sons and Daughters and He wants the best for us. We can draw closer to God as we keep His commandments. Disobedience to His commandments pulls us away from Him. He loves us and wants us to be happy. He gives us commandments so He can keep us safe from Spiritual danger. We can also pray to Him as well. We can ask and tell Him anything. He truly does hear us and He will answer our prayers. Many times as we pray we will feel joy, love, and peace. These feelings are how God can communicate with us and let us know that He cares about us. These are just a few things that you can do to draw closer to God. I know that as you pray and as you stay obedient to His commandments you will come to know your Heavenly Father much better than you did before. Show more Show less

Why is family so important to Mormons?

Families are a way for us to grow and for us to learn more about this life. Families are central to God's plan for each of us and they are a way He can extend His love. In families we can learn how to love and how we can help others. In the home we can learn more about the Savior and His teachings. We can also learn how to contribute to the world that we live in. Family life can have its challenges but through love and service we can learn how to be like the Savior and we can learn more about Him. Show more Show less

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

For me, personally, I know there is a God through His creations. I love the outdoors and I really enjoy rock climbing. I also love visiting National Parks throughout the United States. When I take a step back and look at the beauty before me I always say to myself, "This must have been for me." God knows us perfectly and He knows what we enjoy. Many of the beautiful things around this world couldn't have been by chance. When you go on a hike, go camping, or visit a beautiful sight look at the beauty around you. This is a way that God shows His love for you. Show more Show less

What is a ward/stake/branch?

A ward is a local congregation for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. If the congregation is smaller it is called a branch. In a ward or branch we learn the same things that other Latter-Day Saints are learning all over the world. The lesson materials are the same for everybody. There are leaders for each ward or branch as well. The leader for a ward is called a Bishop while a leader for a branch is called a Branch President. Along with wards and branches you have what is called a stake. A stake is a group of wards or branches. There is a leader for stakes as well and he is called the Stake President. In wards, branches, and stakes people learn how to love each other. They learn how to become good community members. We also learn how to be a big family and learn how to support each other. We learn from each other and we help each other grow spiritually. We also take care of everyone's needs and reach out as much as we can to each other. The Book of Mormon was written by multiple prophets that lived in the Americas. It starts with the prophet Lehi. Lehi was commanded by the Lord to leave Jerusalem around 600 B.C. He and his family were then lead to the Americas. They settled there and began to populate the land. More prophets came forth and wrote about the miraculous events that took place and what they learned about God and Jesus Christ. These writings were then complied by a prophet named Mormon, one of the last prophets of the Ancient Americas. The Book of Mormon has now come forth to bless our lives. It contains writings that will help us learn more about Jesus Christ and how we can strengthen our relationship with Him. Show more Show less

Why was a Restoration of the Gospel needed? Haven’t we always had the Bible?

When Jesus Christ came to the Earth He established a Church. He set up the Apostles and gave them authority to teach His word and to preform miracles. After Jesus Christ was crucified, resurrected, and ascended into Heaven, the Apostles took the Gospel that Jesus taught to many people. The Apostles kept the Early Church in check and kept the doctrine and teachings pure. Over time, however, the Apostles were killed and the authority to teach and preach were lost. As a result of the Apostles being gone, the doctrines of the Church were corrupted and changed. Not all things were changed but most of the doctrines and teachings were changed enough that it was no longer the Church that Jesus Christ set up. This is why a Restoration was needed. It was to bring back the original Church that Jesus Christ set up and to restore the truths that were lost. Show more Show less
