Hi I'm Erik Turley

I grew up in San Diego California, served as a full-time volunteer representative in the Philippines, and love learning languages.

About Me

When I think about myself the first thing that comes to mind is Charity. I love being able to talk to people and really have deep talks with them. When I can truly help someone be happy, I do all I can to make that happen. Also doing service towards others and helping them with things that involve physical labor is something that I really love to be able to do. If I get opportunities to show service for others, I take it and dedicate myself towards it and put all of my heart in it. A hobby that I have is singing music. In High School I was in an Acapella group and I sung tenor. I loved being able to perform for people, especially the elderly. I could see their eyes light up with so much joy when we would sing for them. It gave me such a great feeling to know that I was able to make a difference in someone's life with music. I believe that if you are lost and out of hope, music can calm your soul and will help you find happiness.

Why I am a Mormon

I am 6th generation in the church. Because of this I have had a strong Latter-Day Saint background with a large and evermore growing family. I have chosen to stay a member of the church in my family because, I have received a testimony of the Book of Mormon and of its truthfulness. One thing I have a really strong testimony towards is the power of prayer in my life. Going through rough times in life and praying hard and sincerely to our Heavenly Father has given me a firm knowledge of what the power of prayer can do and has strengthened my relationship with the Lord. I love that the church really emphasizes on families and I know that I will see my family again after I pass on. For anyone reading this, I challenge you to read the Family Proclamation to the World from the First Presidency. I know that Joseph Smith was a true prophet called of God and I know that he received the power to translate the golden-plates (Book of Mormon) so that we may have it today, a record of God's children in the new world. I know that President Thomas S. Monson is a true prophet of God and that he receives modern-day revelation from our Heavenly Father. I know that missionary work is called of God. Through my full-time service as a representative of Jesus Christ, I have seen miracles and I know that they are everywhere. We just need to pay attention. "Obedience brings blessings and exact obedience brings miracles." I testify that all of this is true in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

How I live my faith

While going through my teens I participated in the Boy Scouts of America and did many service projects in my communities that I lived in. I was able to earn my Eagle Scout, and I feel so happy and honored for completing such a hard task. Something that I always love is yearly, our church does a Mormon helping hands service project, and throughout the years I have been able to clean whole towns whether it be setting up posts, cleaning debris from wildfires that have reached into cities, setting up fences and painting fences, cleaning up schools and painting things that are needing to be painted, and taking down weeds in fire danger areas. Also, I am a returned missionary from the Philippines, Bacolod Mission. I was able to spend two years of my life serving and teaching people how to bring happiness into their families and lives through Christ's Gospel. This brought to them as well knowledge about how to receive Eternal Families. I truly grew to love the Filipino people. I consider myself a Filipino at heart now. I speak the Hiligaynon language (ilonggo) and Tagalog.

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

Erik Turley
When Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ created Adam and Eve, one of his first commandments to them was to "multiple and replenish the Earth." With this commandment, Heavenly Father didn't just intend for us to have and to be in families during our time on this Earth. Heavenly Father intended for us to have eternal families. We obtain eternal families just like we can eternal marriages. In fact, these two things go hand in hand. My wife and I were sealed (through the power and authority of the Melchizedek Priesthood) in the San Diego temple for all time and eternity. This means that my wife will still be my wife even after her or I pass on from this Earth (Because, I will see her again). This also means that through our sealing, any children that we have in our marriage will be "born into the covenant" that the Lord, my wife, and I made at the alter. This term means that our children will be ours for all time and eternity and that we will be an eternal family. An eternal marriage covenant is not just to your spouse, but it is to your spouse and to the Lord. Through the Temple of the Lord, we can receive this "eternal marriage" and "eternal family".
