Hi I'm Steve

I grew up in Shelley, Idaho. I'm a combustion engineer for Autoliv. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to hike and explore in the mountains, deserts, and canyons. I like to take pictures of these places I go to and of the people I am with on these adventures. I am a dad of four boys and often drag them along with me on hikes and camping trips. My wife doesn't like to go on these outdoor excursions, but that is OK with me because she helps keep me balanced and encourages me to do other good things. I completed a PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering when my wife and I had three young boys. My wife was a great support to me as we lived on very little for many years. I am grateful for this education and how it has blessed me and my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints since I was 8 years old. I am grateful for my good parents and the way they taught me to follow Jesus by their examples. I have always felt good when I keep the commandments and follow the gospel of Jesus Christ. I sometimes try to put myself in the shoes of someone who is hearing the gospel for the first time. When I hear someone speaking or teaching about the plan of salvation I try to imagine what my friends that have never heard it before are thinking. I usually have a good feeling come over me when I do this. I believe this is the Holy Ghost telling me that the things I am hearing are true. I know that God lives and that he listens to my prayers. When I was a young boy I struggled with speaking in front of people. When it was my turn to give an oral report in school or give a talk in church I would just put my head down and cry and refuse to do it. I remember praying to God every day for years to have the courage to speak in front of people. Finally, after about six years of not being able to do this I was able to give my first oral report in school. Since then, it has become easier and I am grateful for the help my family and my Heavenly Father have given me in this area. I do believe that the true church of Jesus Christ has been restored to the earth. I know Joseph Smith was a prophet. I know we have a living prophet today, Thomas S. Monson. I'm grateful to know that Jesus Christ leads His church through a living prophet. I know that Jesus Christ sacrificed for my sins so that I could repent. I have needed to repent many times in my life and I am grateful that I can. I know the Book of Mormon is true and that it is the most correct of any book on earth. I am grateful for my family and that we can be together, even after this life.

How I live my faith

I am the bishop of the LDS ward I belong to. A bishop is the spiritual leader of the congregation. It is certainly not a position that I sought out or campaigned for. I was quite surprised when I was called to serve in this way. I enjoy visiting with the people in our ward and helping in any way that I can. I especially love interacting with the young people in our ward. Almost every member of the ward has a calling and does their part to make the ward function as it should. I am grateful for all the good people that live in our area.
