Hi I'm Rod

I am a father, a husband, a math teacher, BYU-Hawaii alumni and I am a Mormon

About Me

I was born and raised in the Philippines. I grew up from a very humble circumstances. We didn't have that much but my parents taught me the value of work and to get education as much as possible. The opportunity to further my education came when I was in my early 20's. I got in to BYU-Hawaii and got my degree in math education. I am currently a public school teacher and I do enjoy working with the youths because I know I can make a difference in their lives. I met my wife at BYU-H and were sealed together as husband and wife for time and all eternity in the Laie Hawaii Temple. We're blessed with 5 beautiful and awesome girls. My family is my priority and I will do everything in my power to be the best father to my children and the best husband to my wife. I love to cook and bake and not afraid to try new things that sometimes bring smiles of approval from my family. As for my church services, I served my mission in the Phillippines and also, served and is still serving in different leadership callings.

Why I am a Mormon

This is an easy choice for me. I grew up as a Catholic and was exposed to the church practices which most of the time don't understand but continued to practice the faith. When I was 14 years old, my family was introduced to the Mormon Church and started taking missionary lessons. I don't remember too much of what the missionaries taught but I do remember clearly the peace, the calmness and the joy that I felt every time we meet with them. I learned later that such feeling was from the influence of the Holy Ghost testifying to me the truthfulness of what the missionaries were teaching. Eventually my whole family got baptized into the Mormon Church and that decision opened the path to having real happiness in this life and eternal life in the world to come. I have been a member of the church for over 34 years now, served a two year mission, married in Laie Hawaii temple and served and continue to serve in different leadership callings in the church. I know that this church is the only true church here on earth. I know that Joseph Smith restored this church as instructed by God himself. The Book of Mormon Joseph Smith translated by the power of God is true. I searched through that book and prayed about it and the Lord did answer my prayer distinctly by the power of the Holy Ghost. God continues to communicate to us through His living prophet even today. His name is Thomas S. Monson. He is a true prophet of God. Jesus Christ is my Savior and Redeemer. My testimony is something that I work hard to know through searching the scriptures and praying to God. It's not a borrowed testimony. It something that I know for myself.

How I live my faith

I always knew that faith in God has to be a part of my life. I grew up as a Catholic believing God but eventually decided to become a part of the Mormon or Latter Day Saints church. The decision to be a member of this church is solely mine and not because my parents joined this faith as well. I found that this church teaches everything I need to know about God and the right way to His Kingdom. I gained a very strong testimony of the truthfulness of this church because I studied its teachings specially the Book of Mormon. Just like any truth-seekers, I went to the source of all truths - Our Loving Father in Heaven in prayer. I asked God whether this church was true or not. I did received the answer through the power of the Holy Ghost bearing witness to my soul that it is indeed true. I'm involved in different leadership position in this church. The calling that I enjoyed so much was the time I served a counselor to our Bishop. That calling allowed me to work closely with the youths of the church. They're wonderful sons and daughters of a Loving Father in Heaven. I cherished the times I was able to teach doctrines of the church and to share my testimony with them. Having 5 girls taught me and continually teaching me the importance of being involve in their lives and be an active participants in their activities. I love reading my scriptures specially the Book of Mormon and praying regularly. Doing so gives me the assurance and confidence that I will be guided by the Holy Ghost as I perform my daily activities at home and at work.On Sundays, my family and I love to go to church together to learn from our leaders and to partake of the sacrament of the Lord. I do what I do because I find true peace and joy amidst the challenges and difficulties of living in this very trying times. I know this gospel has all the answer to life's greatest questions and will provide the way to eternal life with Heavenly Father.
