Hi I'm Jared

I'm from Pennsylvania. I love to play sports. I'm currently on a mission in San Diego California. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I love to play sports. Football and basketball are my favorites. I'm going to college at BYU after I get back from my mission to San Diego. I love listening to music, and I also play the piano as well as a tiny bit of guitar, hoping to improve that soon. My mission is hard work but it blesses my life in so many ways already and I love it! 2 years of my life with none of the usual things we think are so awesome like tv or facebook yet I'm happier than ever. How weird it's almost like there's more important things in life ;) hahaha.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a mormon because it's the only way to be saved through Christ. Also I have felt his love in my life as I do what he has commanded me to do and seen the blessings that come through the gospel as well. I haven't always been the best example of a Mormon or any type of Christain but I've been able to experience the forgiveness that is possible through the Atonement. I have felt the return of that love and the happiness that it brings with it. The direction that the gospel gives me helps me to understand the purpose of life and its many struggles. Life is like exercise in that you have to keep pushing yourself to get any better. That's why life is hard sometimes is you just moved up the weight a bit. However, you can learn to gain strength through Heavenly Father and soon the trials that seemed so difficult are so easy. Then you get new ones and start all over again. We don't ever settle or give up instead we grow!

How I live my faith

I currently go out and teach about the gospel all day. We are just trying to help everyone we meet come unto Christ and accept his love in their life. I try to love and serve everyone whether they are interested in accepting the Gospel at this point or not. I always just try to encourage everyone I see to be a little better today then they were yesterday. I feel like if everyone regardless of faith followed that, then in a couple years we would have a pretty sweet world. Then being a missionary would be super easy because everyone you talked to would be nice! Haha but in reality just living some of those simple cliches are so key to everyone being happy. Like the Golden Rule! Can you imagine how awesome life would be if everyone did that? When I realize that I just try to focus on doing my best to better my corner of the world. Even if no one else is living that way I'd rather try to live by what I know is best then just give in because then I'm part of the problem not part of the solution. I guess that's my goal is to help be part of the solution and not wait for someone else to come along and fix it and then just follow them.

How is the Book of Mormon different from the Bible? How did Joseph Smith obtain the “golden plates” or Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ, his life and ministry as well as his divine Atonement. The Book of Mormon is similar to the Bible in that it is a record of God's dealings with his children and his Gospel as preached by prophets that he called. The Book of Mormon is the record of the people in the New World or the Americas instead of in Jerusalem. It is also a clearer witness of the essential truths of the gospel that have been lost from the Bible during its many translations over the years. Joseph Smith was called by God to be a prophet just as many men in the Bible and Book of Mormon were. Once called he was led to the golden plates which were buried in the Hill Cumorah. Through God's power he was able to translate those plates into what is called the Book of Mormon. It is named after the prophet who compiled a lot of the record into one set of plates before the plates were buried. The Book of Mormon is a divinely inspired record of Jesus Christ as his doctrines that allow us to come unto him. Show more Show less

Why is authority to perform a baptism important?

The authority to baptize is the same authority that is needed to perform all of the duties in the Church. It is called the priesthood and is the authority to act in the name of God and perform his work on the Earth. There is a division in the priesthood into a lesser and greater priesthood. The lesser priesthood is called the Aaronic priesthood and is in charge of the temporal well being of the church including baptism. The higher priesthood, the Melchizedek Priesthood, is the authority to administer in all ordinances in the church such as giving the gift of the Holy Ghost. This authority is what was restored to the Earth through Joseph Smith after those who had that authority had been killed off at the end of the Bible. Without this authority the Church ceases to be run by God and his divine influence. That is why the authority had to be restored and why a reformation of the churches on the earth in 1820 would not have been sufficient, it had to be a true restoration of authority. A ward is a group of Mormons. It is set up geographically and has a couple hundred members within the boundaries. A stake is just a larger unit that is made up of several wards. The reason behind all of this is so that members don't get lost when they move. Also it keeps the focus on Jesus Christ and how it is his church instead of people just going to whichever bishop (similar idea to a pastor) they like best. Show more Show less
