Hi I'm Matt R.

I was born in Utah but grew up in Southern California. I am a happily married father of five.

About Me

I grew up in a family of five children and now have five grown children of my own. I have one grandchild and look forward to more. I write satellite communications software for a living. I enjoy the outdoors, astronomy, and various sports. My favorite workout is playing beach volleyball doubles. I play guitar and other instruments, and love to sing, especially folk and old-time music. I have spent much of my life working with youth in and out of the church, including the Boy Scouts. My best memories in life are from camping and wilderness experiences with my family and on Scout trips.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Mormon church and feel lucky that I did not have to "find" it. I could have left it behind to follow personal desires, but the values and culture of Mormonism provide the answers to what I believe are the biggest problems facing the people of the earth today. I believe in the atonement of Jesus Christ and strive to make its blessings effective in my life every single day.

How I live my faith

I love working with youth and young adults. I work with them to plan and execute activities outside of regular Sunday worship services, where I occasionally teach. I have worked forever in various capacities in the Boy Scouts of America, particularly with the troop sponsored by my church unit. I also make monthly visits to a few families assigned to me, whom I have grown to love over of the years.
