Hi I'm Canden

I was born in Utah but grew up in Singapore. I provided Christmas to a destitute Philippine orphanage. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am what people call a third culture kid. In other words I'm a US citizen who basically "grew up" in Asia. This means I'm American but not completely. Singapore is my home but the USA is my home country. Yes it is confusing. Accordingly, I love almost all non-American sports. Rugby and football (also called soccer) immediately top the list. I started playing football when I was 4 and played center and right defense in my youth. I'm also a food lover. I love Asian food and spicy dishes. Indian Prata and Curry is my favorite meal. I've written off American food. I have to eat over 5,000 calories a day! It's a trait that runs in the family. Some days its a burden other days, its great! When I went to university in the US (I'm a sophomore by the way) I found out how un-authentic most American Asian food is. Oh, and I also play the bass guitar. I played in a Jazz Band, a funk trio, and in an orchestra pit. There is nothing like laying out a groove with a good drummer.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born to Mormon parents but that is far from being the only reason I'm a Mormon. My parents have taught me great things but naturally I am a very principled person and strive for ideals that others may disregard. I desire to do whatever is right no matter what. I have found that Christ has the answers for our all our lives questions through the scriptures and the Holy Spirit. No matter how hard things get, He just always seems to have an answer. As I try each thing He says with real intent, I find out for myself of its the truth. I know the Book of Mormon is true, as I live it and try out the doctrine I know its right and true and I feel the happiest when I live this way than anything else.

How I live my faith

I strive to serve others as I live. A few years ago, I organized a relief effort for a fairly obscure orphanage in the philipines. I asked my church congregation to bring necessities and Christmas to an orphanage that had recently been evicted from their building. They were crammed into the ghetto home of its director and looking for help. My church congregation or ward was already planning on its yearly group trip to one of the Mormon temples in the Philippines. As a member of the Boy Scouts of America Association I organized the many willing members of my church's congregation to bring a gender specific christmas present for each of the children in the orphanage, a Christmas tree, food, school supplies, gospel materials and any other donations in their luggage. Many member's paid to fly extra bags with them to accommodate the enormous response. I also collected over 2,000 Philippine Peso's in donation money. I arranged a visit where our group dropped off the donations and had a Christmas celebration with the children. Because I love Christ and want to share the great life I have because of Him, I will serve a two year mission
