Hi I'm Lara

I grew up in small town rural Canada, moved to Sydney, Australia. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in a small farming town in Alberta, after finishing highschool at the top of my class I decided to move to the 'big city' to attend university. I enjoyed building new friendships while attending the many festivals, concerts, symphonies, ballets, live theatre and other events that city life can provide. After finishing my bachelors degree in Eningeering I began a career in Oil and Gas. I recently decided to further my education; I figured since there is a whole world out there, there is no reason to stay in my little corner of it, Sydney Australia seemed like an interesting place, so I up and moved half-way across the world. Although I miss home, I enjoy exploring my new home and getting to know the wonders of this corner of the world.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know it is true. Yes, I was raised in this church, I was taught these things as truth from the time I was a child. However I know for myself that the principles and doctrines taught here are true, they are more than mere words, pleasing to the soul, they are truth. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints offers many many great things. It is a wonderful church, it provides a wonderful church experience, many social, service and learning opportunities. The Church provides great service & aid throughout the world, is full of many noble and good people, it encourages righteous, thrifty, honest and diligent living, it truly is a wonderful church. However, I am a member of this church because the gospel it teaches is true.

How I live my faith

I try to actually LIVE my life according to my faith as much as I possibly can. As my friends come from all across this globe, religion topics come up frequently, when asked "What does your religion teach about...", after responding it is usually followed by the question "And do YOU actually do that?", I try to live my life in such a way that my answer can always be "Yes!". Regular church attendance is important to me. I attend church every week, always at my same congregation. I lead the music for the congregation, and am often asked to fill in teaching youth or children's classes as assigned teachers are out of town. Worshipping weekly with my congregation has allowed me to build friendships and family relationships in a city so far away from my own family. As a student the church provides opportunities for me to further my religious education alongside my secular education. Institute classes are offered both on campus, and in our church meeting houses that allow me to gather with other students & peers to learn of Jesus Christ, the Holy Scriptures, church history and the teachings of our Prophet today. Music always has been, and always will be an important part of my faith. The gospel hymns mean so much to me, take a look on my phone, you might find a few pop songs, a few classical numbers, but majority of it will be hymns. There is nothing I would rather listen to. However, of greatest importance is the day to day, small and simple ways in which I live my faith. The private prayers, personal scripture study and moments of quiet reflection throughout my day are what truly bring me closer to the Lord and enable me to continue in my faith.
