Hi I'm Mary

I love to travel, read, and eat dried apricots. I am a mother of six boys. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My dad almost died due to severe illness when I was four. He defied all doctors' expectations and lived another twenty years. He had lasting disabilities, though, which prevented him from practicing his profession (medical doctor). I grew up with him always at home and almost always in pain. It hurt to see him go through this. My mother went back to school, earning a degree and becoming a school teacher. I had no doubt of the importance of education from my parents' examples. I earned a bachelors degree by the age of twenty and went to work on the Human Genome Project soon after. I married a fantastic man and together we have six wonderful sons. We have lived on both coasts of the United States and have travelled to many other countries in the world. I still have a dream of following in my father's footsteps and becoming a medical doctor. That dream is on hold for now, as I live my more important dream of being a mother and raising my sons to be very good men.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I believe the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is truly that: the church that belongs to Jesus Christ. I, also, belong to Him. And so do you. He bought us with a price. The most agonizing price. He suffered for each of my sins and each of yours, for all of ours. He, a sinless being, willingly did it because of the perfect love He has for us. Not only for our sins did He suffer. He endured the pains and hurt and despair that each of us feels during our lifetimes. He did this so He could know how to succor us through these times. I am so grateful to Him. I imagine how hard it was for my father to give up his career, his physical abilities, and to endure ceaseless pain for twenty years. I imagine, but I don't know. Jesus Christ knows. He felt the pain my father felt. He was able to help my father through those difficult years. And because our Savior conquered death, so will my father. He will be resurrected with a perfect body and will be free from pain. I will see him again, and I will always be his daughter, because our family is sealed together for eternity. Likewise, my wonderful husband and I are sealed together and to our dear sons for eternity. What comfort and peace this gives to me. I am so grateful to my Savior because He makes this all possible.

How I live my faith

I love my opportunity to plan and hold an annual summer camp for teenage girls in my neighborhood, where they can enjoy nature, commune with the Lord, and build relationships with each other. As a mother with no daughters, I cherish my chance to spend time with these girls. I visit several ladies in my neighborhood monthly to let them know I am thinking about them, and so is the Lord. Also, I teach gospel lessons to five year olds at church on Sunday. Hearing their testimonies strengthens my own.
