Hi I'm Emily Long

I grew up with a plethora of pets. I love to train my goats. I study chemical engineering. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up on a little farm in the middle of Provo, Utah. Our small piece of land was a perfect haven for an imaginative girl who was constantly on adventures. I spent my childhood out with the goats, horses, chickens, and llama. I especially loved my goats, they were my dogs; I played with them and trained them to do all sorts of fun tricks. Fast forward a few years and I'm in the midst of a real adventure: college. I’m furthering my life-long love of science in the field of Chemical Engineering. Though I'm away, I still love my home and play with my goats every chance I get. My family instilled in me a love of new things. I especially enjoy experiencing and learning about different cultures. I love food, art, and music from all over the world. I have a goal to try traditional food from every country and travel to as many as possible.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the church but that is not why I am a Mormon. My own conversion to this gospel has happened slowly over time. My belief has come after much studying, questioning, and pondering. As I study, the quiet feelings of the spirit testify of the truth of this church and bring peace to my soul. I know this is the true work of God. The gospel of Jesus Christ has been a constant source of hope in my life. I thank the Lord everyday for the blessings, tender mercies, and patience he shows to me even though I know that I alone do not deserve it. It is only through Christ, who knows all of our individual sufferings, that justice can be tempered by mercy. Throughout my life, in good times and bad times, I have felt his comforting hand strengthen me. I love the Bible and the Book of Mormon. They contain the most beautiful lines of truth and show the miraculous works of God among his children in ancient times. Every time I read through the scriptures I feel the love of God. It is wonderful to know that we have prophets, apostles, miracles, and revelations today just as they did in times of old.

How I live my faith

I am taking a break from my schooling to serve as a missionary for the church. It wasn't an easy decision to make but I knew that it was the right thing for me to do. I will serve in West Virginia Charleston Mission for a year and a half and then it will be back to school. As a missionary I have the opportunity to spend everyday serving others and teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is a great opportunity to share with others the comfort and happiness I've received through the atonement of Christ. I am constantly studying the words of Christ and striving to live as he did. There is nothing I would rather be doing than bringing others to the knowledge of the gospel and serving them.
