Hi I'm Carly

I like things "before they were cool". I like to whittle soap. I am a Mormon.

About Me

In my first year of college, I considered majoring in social work, human resources, and speech and deaf communications. I just love helping people I guess. I love to hike and go on adventures. I suffer from wanderlust frequently and I usually find myself in Southern Utah every summer. I bought my clothes at thrift stores before it was cool. I like to play the guitar and to sing. I am very young and still trying to figure out a lot of things- but I know I'm not on my own. I am currently serving as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Virginia Chesapeake Mission and I love it!

Why I am a Mormon

Everything in the world changes. Musical tastes. Fashion styles. Morals. Political correctness. None of it seems to ever be consistent. What is a young person like me supposed to do? There have been times where I have felt confused and discouraged. But then I turn to the Savior. I find that He is the same. Always. And His gospel is true and it is right. The world might change and say that I am not enough and that I cannot make a difference. But I find through faith in Christ, I can overcome anything. This gospel isn't only true, but it is also a gospel of love. I know that I have a Heavenly Father who loves me and has my best interest in mind. He is a God who knows all and has power over all but still cares about a 19-year-old girl like me. I know this because I have talked to my Heavenly Father in prayer. He has sent me blessings when I have needed them. He has helped me overcome my fears and weaknesses. And He has sent me comfort, even though He already knows that it'll be okay in the end. It's because He cares. The Book of Mormon, temple blessings, missionary work, prophets and modern-day revelation, Christ's atonement.... they all testify of truth and they all testify of God's love for us. I'm a Mormon because this Church is the Church of Jesus Christ. It is right. It is truth. It is The Way. It is love.

How I live my faith

I serve as a missionary, which means I have the opportunity to preach what I know to be true to the people in Virginia and North Carolina. It has been such a blessing to me. The gospel is God's way of showing me that He loves all His children. And I get to be part of that! I try to live my life so that anyone around me knows that I sincerely care about them. I want them to be happy because I am so happy! I want others to know that I will help them if they ask. And that I will help them even if they don't ask. Service is its own reward. The happiest moments of my life are when I am helping others, making lifelong friends, and testifying of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

What are Mormon women like? Do Mormons believe in equality of men and women?

LDS women are amazing! Here's a list of the women who I think are amazing: My Mom My Grandmas My Sisters My Friends My Fellow Missionary Companions My Neighbors My Young Women Leaders My Friends' Parents My Relief Society President And so many more! As a church, we love and encourage our women. We know that women today can make a difference. Actually, we KNOW they make ALL the difference. Who raises our world leaders? Who takes care of the sick and weary? Who understands the difficulties of living in a scary world? Our mothers do! My mom is my hero! I love her so much. I'm so grateful for how she and my father raised me. I am truly blessed by both of their examples. Show more Show less
