Hi I'm Ryan

I ski, play piano, run, and bike. I've lived in Texas, Utah, Idaho, and soon Malaysia. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently attending High School and will soon graduate. I leave on a mission to Singapore July 2nd, which I'm extremely excited about. I'll be speaking Malay, and hopefully well. The language is parent to Indonesian and they are about 80% the same. I love to learn and will really enjoy the cultural experience. I'm expecting to spend most of my time in Malaysia because it is included in the mission and makes up most of the mission's area. Over the past few years I have worked moving pipe (moving irrigation pipes in a field), gardening and landscaping for neighbors (I really enjoyed it and did it for a significant amount of time), and organizing files at a law office. I really enjoy music and have ventured into guitar, harmonica, and piano. I was never motivated to take piano lessons when I was young, but last year I recognized the value of being able to play and have loved playing since. After my mission I will be attending Brigham Young University and am really excited about that as well!

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the Church, though by no means is that the reason I am now a member. In my childhood I of course trusted and respected my parents and their own beliefs certainly impacted me, but with age I have developed a personal belief in the things they taught. I have a unique, personal, and sacred relationship with my Heavenly Father. I know that Joseph Smith restored the true and living Gospel, which gospel is that Jesus Christ is the son of God, that He came to Earth because He loves us, that He taught us powerful truths while among us, that He was and is perfect, that He suffered and died for us, that He loves us more than we can comprehend, and that He will answer our questions and comfort us as we seek him. I know this Church is led by our Savior. I know that keeping the commandments of our Father in Heaven brings joy. I know that we are here to have joy. I know that the Book of Mormon is a sacred, plain, and true book. I know that there are prophets on the Earth today and that men are receiving revelation from a loving Heavenly Father. I know the Bible is the word of God, "as far as it is translated correctly." The principles I have learned through personal scripture study, prayer, and Sunday worship have led my life. They have brought me happiness and saved me from an otherwise miserable life. I know that I am greatly blessed to know the most important truths there are. I desire everyone to faithfully join this Church, and I desire it because I love them.

How I live my faith

I truly love the Church and recognize service in it as the best way to help others and express kindness. I currently have my first adult position in the church as the 11 year old scout assistant. I help teach the boys every Tuesday, and we go on campouts as well. I'm an eagle scout, and have enjoyed my time in scouting and am glad that the Church works with the Boy Scouts of America. I have taught lessons to youth and adults on Sundays, given talks to our congregation, and given talks when multiple congregations meet together in one big meeting of hundreds of people. I have also helped coordinate a youth conference, preparing a video to be shown, offering input to adults, and speaking to the conference. I view these experiences as powerful opportunities that have really helped me to become a better and more confident person. I am surprised by how much the Church trusts its youth and allows us to work based on our own unique testimonies of the Savior.
