Hi I'm Derek A. Jennings

Call of Duty Legend. Mountain Biker. New York Knicks Fan. Missionary in Canada. I'm a Latter-day Saint.

About Me

My awesome wife Rachel and I live in Ogden and love playing pickleball and going scuba diving. I attend Weber State University and study microbiology and chemistry.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a member of this church because I've received a witness that Jesus Christ is the Messiah, the Book of Mormon is true, and that this is Christ's true church on the earth today. With that being said, I'm also constantly striving to grow my testimony and increase my doctrinal understanding. I've seen the blessings that come from living the gospel; and I'm so grateful for the peace, comfort, and knowledge that it brings.

How I live my faith

In 2003 I made the decision to get baptized; although not everyone was supportive, I learned that I could always rely on the Lord. I live my faith by striving to be like Christ everyday of the week, not just Sunday. I'm also living my faith by serving a mission and teaching people about Jesus Christ, and how they can grow closer to Him.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Derek A. Jennings
The Word of Wisdom is basically a health code from God. Often we hear all about 'fad diets' and 'new discoveries' that have been made up by man. I think it's neat that in 1833 God gave us an outline of what we should & shouldn't do to stay strong and healthy. The Word of Wisdom tells us to eat fruits, vegetables, and whole-grains. It also guides us to stay away from drugs, alcohol, tea, and coffee. I know that the Word of Wisdom is from Heavenly Father. As we follow its teachings we will be blessed both physically and spiritually. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about the Bible? Do they regard it as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Derek A. Jennings
For myself, I believe that the Bible is the word of God. However, I don't believe that the Bible is perfect. There are too many discrepancies and lost books for the Bible to be perfect. The English word 'Bible' comes from the Greek 'tà biblía' (τὰ βιβλία) which means 'the books.' The Holy Bible, by definition, is a collection of books. 66 of them; 39 from the Old Testament, 27 from the New. I believe that the Bible is the word of God, but I don't believe that it's all of God's word. I believe that God continues to speak today. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I love the Bible. My favorite book in all scripture, the Book of Revelation, comes from the Bible. I know that studying the Bible will help a man grow closer to God. Show more Show less
