Hi I'm Joel 'Sunshine' Barker

I grew up in West Valley, Utah. I love smiling, I love Frisbee! I love music, I drive a truck, I love animals, and I'm a Mormon!!

About Me

I'm an outdoor enthusiast, I spend most of my summers working at a boy scout camp in the Uinta Mountains where everyone calls me Sunshine! I have taught a lot of merit badges, but I prefer life guarding out on the lake. :) I have a strong love for animals, I raise livestock (Cows, Chickens, Goats, etc..) I am a goofball. I love working on engines with my grandpa, I listen to primarily country music, drive a beat up Toyota Pickup truck, and I'm the second oldest in a family of 6. I have an older brother, younger brother, a younger sister, and 2 very loving, supporting parents, and I am a TOTAL Momma's boy! My family means everything to me, I couldn't do anything without them. I love Kayaking and mountain biking, rock climbing, hiking, and barefoot trail running. I wear weird shoes with toes in them, I spend most of my time playing Ultimate Frisbee and Frisbee Golf. Whenever I have spare time I try to get out of the city and go to a small town in Southern Utah for some real fun. :) I'm hoping to go to Utah State University for a career in Large Animal Veterinary science. I'm pretty easy-going, I love having fun! :) I love to smile, and I love making people laugh. I get the greatest joy out of helping people come unto our Savior and seeing them receive blessings. :) I'm a Mormon!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that what I believe is true. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of god, and through God's power, he translated the Book of Mormon. I have witnessed miracles and seen the blessings that come from following the teachings of the Gospel. Also, I really just enjoy being a member of the LDS church. It makes me happy and takes away all the stress from the world. I'm a Mormon and I'm proud of it!

How I live my faith

I show my faith by the way I live my life. I am currently a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I came all the way from Utah to South Carolina to teach the Gospel! I love what I do and I wouldn't change it for the world!

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Joel 'Sunshine' Barker
We are all encouraged to serve a mission for the Church, but not required. We get to. :) When we decide to serve a mission, it is by our own will because we know the blessings this Gospel has brought to our lives, and we love going out and helping others receive those blessings as well! Besides that, serving a mission is just a lot of fun! It is a lot of work, and can be stressful at times, but there is nothing more important than helping people build faith in Jesus Christ.
