Hi I'm Layne P.

I'm a husband and father that loves to be outside with his family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love running and hiking with my daughter and wife. I work for the National Park Service building contracts and purchasing supplies to support the many activities performed in our country's most beautiful lands.

Why I am a Mormon

It's not easy being a Mormon, but the more I read about Jesus Christ the more I realize that the religious doctrine He would approve of does not make day to day life easier. "Follow me", He said. Modern prophets who have taken up that mantle provide guidance on how we can all follow Him. Through the Church and only through the Church can we make and keep sacred covenants like baptism that give us eternal goals to which we can aspire. These goals make me a better person, community member, father, husband, and son of God. Why I continue as a member of the church despite the difficulty of the journey is my ability to receive divine confirmation of doctrines individually. While some tasks and doctrines may be onerous or hard to comprehend, I can receive personal, real testimony of any decree be it worldwide or within our neighborhood. The structure, fellowship, and community of the church further helps me live my values with support and love.

How I live my faith

As Uncle Ben from Spiderman once said: "With great power comes great responsibility." This holds true for me as I try to live a life worthy of Christ's acceptance. I already have his love, and I know he accepts me for who I am but he certainly does not accept all I do. However, much of what I do as a Mormon stems from his call to serve others as if I were serving God Himself. My current task is the friendshipping of those not a part of the church, first to learn to love them and second to invite them to come unto Christ by learning of his teachings. I also visit the homes of members to learn about and from their families, while sharing gospel messages of my own.

What is the role of the husband and the wife in the family?

Layne P.
My role as a husband/father put very simply is to do everything possible to maintain an atmosphere of love in the home. Secondary roles of providing, protecting, and presiding stem from that all-important first responsibility and are necessary to ensure it's success. I team up with my wife to make sure that her needs are met and that we have a good game plan for our relationship as well as the relationship we share with our children. If any of the three secondary roles are not fulfilled, like a three-legged stool the family will suffer. Thankfully, my wife is there to help fulfill these tasks and can be more qualified than I to do so. However, when she does it takes away from her natural abilities to teach, nurture, and directly guide our children every minute of the day. Her patience makes my roles possible, as mine do for her.
