Hi I'm Shannon

I'm a right-brained ginger who loves just about everything nerdy. I'm a Mormon. And I'm a missionary.

About Me

I'm nineteen years old. I'm a red-head in a family of brunettes. I've attended both Brigham Young University and Arizona State University, but I'm putting off my education for a bit so I can serve a mission. On October 9, 2013, I reported to the Philippines Legazpi Mission. Even though serving mission was never in my original plan, I feel like it's what I need to be doing and I'm so happy to be serving the Lord. I've been writing stories ever since I was six and my dream is to become a published author so I can offer some of the same magic that books have brought to my own life. I love basically everything nerdy and I love watching television shows and movies and then talking about them with people. I love reading, acting, singing, eating, and laughing with my family and friends.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born a member of the Church, but I've stayed a member because I know I would never be happy doing anything else. Being a member, I have a strong support system in my ward, a loving and forgiving Bishop and Stake President to talk to, friends that share my values, and a Heavenly Father to pray to for comfort and help. For three years, I went through a difficult time of self-consciousness and depression when I felt so alone every day, so abandoned by everyone around me, but my Heavenly Father helped me through it. Without Him, I know I wouldn't be here. I've felt the Spirit in His church, and when I even consider my life without the gospel, I know I'd never be able to survive without the love it has given me. When I didn't always keep God in mind, I was in a dark, lonely place, but when I accepted that He would always love me and forgive me as long as I trusted in Him, my life got so much brighter, and it has continued to brighten even more now in the mission field. I know God loves me and all his children. I have a firm testimony in the Atonement, since I've seen the incredible impact it has had on my life and so many others. I have received the blessings of the temple and I know it is God's house. I have faith in the comfort I am blessed with when I work to follow His commandments, and I believe in Joseph Smith and in the Restoration. I can't even begin to think that I could live in this world without the gospel. I love it with all my heart.

How I live my faith

I'm currently serving a mission in the Philippines Legaspi mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I LOVE it. Even though I haven't been out very long, I already know this was the best decision I've ever made. Before I left, I served as the Primary Chorister in my ward. Even though it was trying sometimes and it required a lot of patience, I loved my experience. I was so happy that I get to spend time with kids while also sharing my love of music and singing with them.
