Hi I'm Bobby

I like to serve. I am in the Army. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Right now, I am a student and participating in an ROTC program for the Army to become an officer. I went to basic training about a year ago where I had some great experiences and made many friends. Recently, I got married to the best woman ever! I really enjoy playing sports and going to game nights with friends. Music is a huge part of my life because I play the piano and sing. My wife helps me keep organized and I even discovered that I like to cook. I participate in as many sporting activities as I can without hurting myself:)

Why I am a Mormon

I chose to be a Latter-day Saint because I know I can have all the blessings of God. Although I was raised in this church there came a time where I had to choose to continue being a member. My parents didn't help me at this time. They did their part by introducing me to the gospel of Jesus Christ, and I had to accept it. I read and prayed about the Book of Mormon and I know that this book is true. It contains true doctrine about our purpose here and where we are going. It is a key component to truth along with the Bible. These go hand in hand. I know that Christ died for me and that I can live with Him again if I am worthy.

How I live my faith

I do a lot of work with the men in the church. I have been in many assignments where I served the men specifically, which has been really rewarding. I would go to their houses and talk with them about how I could help them in their lives, and I would organize activities where we would get together to play basketball or have a barbecue. Other assignments I've had dealt with missionary work in the church. I am a ward missionary right now, which means I help the missionaries in their lessons and I get trained on how to do missionary work in my area. It has been a lot of fun!

Why is it important for us to take care of our bodies? Why are our bodies called temples of God in the Bible?

God gives us a specific set of instructions on how we need to take care of our bodies. The Bible discusses how our body is a tabernacle, meaning it is very sacred. Moses used the tabernacle for sacred ordinances. So if our body is comparable to the tabernacle then we must avoid harmful substances in order to keep our body sacred. We believe in the Word of Wisdom, or a specific commandment from Heavenly Father on how to take care of our bodies. It states we should avoid coffee and tea (strong drinks as stated in Doctrine and Covenants 89) along with alcoholic beverages and tobacco. Some have approached me with research in favor of drinking coffee and tea; in return I ask, if God said that I am not to partake of these substances, then who do I trust? God or man? God is our creator and He knows the body best. I know if I do as He asks then I will be promised with a strong body, able to "run and not be weary, walk and not feint." (Doctrine and Covenants 89). In whom should we have faith?

Put your faith in Jesus Christ as stated in Acts 4:12. In doing so, answers to questions of the soul come with greater clarity, ie: why does God allow bad things to happen? The Book of Mormon addresses this question of faith and in whom we should have faith in Mosiah 3:17. King Benjamin is the speaker, and he says that there is no other way by which we can have salvation except through Jesus Christ, meaning we must have faith in Him that saves, or our Savior. By this way, we become close to Heavenly Father and we understand His true nature. Christ is our example that Heavenly Father gave us so that we can be like Christ, which means that we will also be like Heavenly Father if we choose to follow this path. Show more Show less

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Absolutely! The Bible is the word of God, and those people who wrote in it were inspired people. The Bible testifies that Christ came to the world to die for us. It also talks about God's dealings with the children of Israel to prepare them for the coming of Christ. Holy men were inspired by the Holy Ghost to write these things so that we can read them in our day. Similar to the Bible, the Book of Mormon is the word of God. It discusses Christ's dealings with the people in America similar to Christ's ministry in Jerusalem. The Book of Mormon was written to solidify and support the doctrines of the Bible, and to help people grow closer to Jesus Christ. Show more Show less

Why is family so important to Mormons?

Family is so important because it is the fundamental unit of life. Like a cog in a clock, each family member does their part to help the family succeed. The family is ordained of God and is vital to His plan of happiness for His children (us). Sometimes families are broken or cause issues; Heavenly Father is aware of these trials. He provides a way for happiness despite familial struggles, and that way is through living the gospel of Jesus Christ. If a family lives the gospel of Jesus Christ in all aspects then a family will be strong. The church has a document called "The Family: A Proclamation to the World." Read it. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about family?

There is a song we sing in the church called "Families can be together forever." This means that familial ties can exist beyond mortal life. We can live with our loved ones forever! The only way this can happen is through performing a sacred ordinance in the temple, which there are many temples throughout the world. In the temple, we perform this sacred ordinance (called a sealing) to seal a family together forever. This power comes from Peter when it was given to him by Christ himself, and later Joseph Smith received this same power to bind on earth and in heaven. (References Matthew 16:19 and Doctrine and Covenants 130:2). Being sealed together forever is one of God's great gifts that He gives us. We can live together after this life. I know that this sealing power is real and that I will live with my family after this life. Show more Show less
