Hi I'm Spencer

I grew up in California. I love science, technology, engineering, math, and economics. I play water polo and piano. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the oldest son of three boys. We've all grown up in California, and love it. I've played piano since I was eight, and it makes me happy. In high school I joined the water polo and swim teams, and have grown a lot physically, mentally and socially from them, and had lots of fun while doing them. I joined the robotics team my senior year, and had a great time helping to build competition-winning robots. Throughout my life I've loved math and science, and have taken wonderful math, physics, chemistry, computer science, and economics classes in high school. I am currently on a two-year mission to Lyon, France, and I am having an amazing experience. When I return home I will go to the University of Chicago.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born to parents who were members of the church, but I didn't become truly personally converted until I was in my mid-teens. It takes time to fully understand the gospel, and I am still learning, but I felt a major shift in my perspective while I was at a 2 week summer camp in Idaho. It was not specifically a church camp, but there were religious themes and activities. We read scriptures and had genuine discussions on gospel topics, and because of the natural setting, the sacred topics, and the earnest people there, I was able to feel the Holy Ghost, and realize more that I knew that what I had been learning my whole life was true. Even now I am able to feel God's love and support when I am in difficult situations. He makes me happy. As a missionary I have grown immensely in the gospel. My faith has been strengthened through diligent scripture study, sincere prayer, and by teaching, listening and discussing with people about gospel topics.

How I live my faith

Once a month I go with an older friend from church to visit three different member families in our area. We talk to them to see how things are going for their family and try to help them with any problems they're having. We also share a spiritual message with them, especially trying to help their children learn about the gospel. Every week I bless the sacrament for our entire congregation. Often, I also go with another boy my age to take the sacrament to other people who are in the hospital or are unable to come to church for some reason. I am a youth, so I don't have a full-time church calling (job), but occasionally I do teach lessons in the church classes to other youth my age. As a missionary, I will have the opportunity to dedicate all of my time to serving God, by helping people understand and receive the gospel of Jesus Christ. I am leaving behind my family, friends, and school (among other things) for 2 years to bring eternal happiness to others.
