Hi I'm Laura Macdonald

My roots are in Mesquite, Nv. My branches in Alaska. I am a teacher. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mother of two, grandmother of five. I teach small children and feel that the influence we have on the youth is most important above all others we may influence. I love to read, travel and learn. My favorite book is the Book of Mormon. I don't know how many times I have read it because when I finish I begin again. I also love historical fiction, good movies and gardening. One of the people who has influenced me most is my grandmother because she taught me to believe that I could accomplish anything if I was willing to put forth the effort.

Why I am a Mormon

I come from Mormon pioneers but as everyone does, I too needed to choose this faith for myself. That happened when I was eighteen. I went away to college and took some classes about the church. Similar to what the missionaries teach. I remember praying to know if these things I had been taught and lived all my life were true. A warm feeling that flooded over me. Tears flowed and I no longer believed, I knew they were true. I was excited to learn more and felt great joy every time I read the scriptures. Now when I read, that warm feeling floods over me reaffirming those truths. In my darkest moments (which we all pass through at some point in our lives), I was comforted and strengthened by the Saviors tender mercies. I felt his loving arms embrace me when there was no one else to comfort me. Although I couldn't see him, I could feel him and knew that he was there. I learned, "We are NEVER alone." When I listen to the living Prophet, Thomas S. Monson, and the apostles, I feel the love of the Savior envelop me and confirm to my spirit that what they are teaching is true. They are the Lord's representatives on the earth. I love that he has provided an organization to help us find our way back to him by following his teachings as guided by a living Prophet, the scriptures and revelation. The gospel brings me joy!

How I live my faith

I feel the best way to live my faith is by example and by striving to see the good in others. When I am tempted to be negative or critical, I try to stop myself by thinking of how my actions and thoughts might affect the other person and what the Savior would do. I currently teach small children ages 18 months to 3 years old. I also serve as a visiting teacher. I love getting to know other women and try to find ways to help them and their families. I love talking about the gospel and am willing to share my testimony of Jesus Christ and his teachings whenever and where ever I can. I enjoy doing family history, indexing names and attending the temple where I feel close to the Savior.
