Hi I'm Heather

I am a stay-at-home mom and try to make positive, healthy choices for my family. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a birth doula, a Le Leche League breastfeeding peer counselor, a child birth educator and a contraceptive counselor. I live a natural lifestyle sometimes called being, "crunchy" and have affectionately been called a hippie! I am passionate about pregnancy, birth and mothering. I parent my children with a loving and firm guidance and help them follow their passions. I work hard to minimize our exposure to harmful substances of all kinds including unhealthy foods, excess chemicals and unnessecary medications. I was baptized as a teen in 2004. I married my wonderful husband in 2007 and my husband joined the Church in 2008. We were sealed together, with our son, for time and all eternity in the Louisville Kentucky Temple in 2009. We have 2 children, a son, born in 2009 and a daughter, born in 2011.

Why I am a Mormon

Explaining why I am a Mormon is easy, and yet complicated, as I believe the innerworkings of our souls always are. The most basic of answers would be; I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because it is the true and everlasting Gospel of Christ. By the time I was a teen I had explored many other Christian faiths and even read-up on non-christian faiths. Every one I attended eventually disappointed me. I found that answers to questions I felt to be basic, were answered with other questions. Or I would find that the practices put in place to not be in keeping with the Bible. Then there were others where everything seemed great but the longer I went to more I realized the having the appearance of truth and light and life is not the same as actually being a beacon of truth and light. When I found the Church, I was excited but quickly overwhelmed. I felt I had to learn everything first. Once I realized that baptism was the first step, and not the last, I was put at ease. I am constantly in the process of conversion. Being converted of the heart is more than simple becoming a member of the church. To me, it is the loss of desire to do evil followed by the understand and implementation of the commandments of Heavenly Father in our life. I find that the deeper my understand of Christ;s suffering in Gethsemene and death on the cross and resurrection on the 3rd day (or what we call the "atonement" of Jesus Christ) the more fully converted I have become. I am a Mormon because the Book of Mormon is true and is the answer to many sought after questions. This is the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Holy Ghost told me so. And He can tell you too.

How I live my faith

I like to serve those around me as much as I can, which is not as much as I would like with two little ones whose needs seem constant. I enjoying visiting with several of the women of my ward every month. I try to attend regular meetings of the women's group to get to know more of the ladies around me. I am working on putting together a women's scripture study group going right now. I also teach 6/7 year olds class on Sunday's. I have enjoyed this very much and love watching the "lightbulb moments" when I see a child understand something new.
