Hi I'm Jarom Barney

I'm a 19-year-old Mormon from Nampa, Idaho.

About Me

I'm just your average BYU-Idaho college student and by average I really mean that I'm all over the place with soccer, dance, weight lifting, track, movie nights, all day homework sessions and yet I am somehow pulling all A's. I can't express how much I love to stay active. I'm not huge into laying around all day, I need to be up and moving, perhaps running, or dancing or something crazy awesome like that. I am an only child, but that doesn't mean that I don't have siblings. My family has hosted 9 foreign exchange students in 4 years from countries like Germany, Korea, Columbia, The Netherlands and a few others. It has been such a great experience to have all those different cultures in our home, and I have definitely grown because of it. Because of all the foreign culture I have been exposed to, it was expected that I would go to some remote country on the other side of the world, instead, I leave on August 21st for Albuquerque, New Mexico, and I honestly couldn't be happier. I am so excited to spend the next two years in New Mexico preaching the gospel and helping others feel the joy that I have found in this wonderful Church.

Why I am a Mormon

How bright does a light bulb shine when it isn't getting any power. A few years ago, my light wasn't shining very bright. I was unhappy and I really didn't know what the matter was. The problem was my attitude. My negative attitude towards everything was cutting off the much needed power that my light needed. Last year I decided that I had had enough, I wanted to be happy, and I knew that the gospel could bring me that happiness, so I dove into the scriptures, I started praying regularly, I started paying attention in church, and sure enough my light started to shine brighter and brighter, and people started to notice. I was happier, and an over all better person because of this gospel. I know that this church is true. Sometimes it is difficult to know in something you can't see but that is where faith comes in, and boy has faith done loads for me and my life. Because I was willing to put trust in the Lord, He has blessed my life with so many great and marvelous things. That is why I am a Mormon

How I live my faith

I am where I am today because of the examples that my friends set for me in high school. Everybody seemed so happy and I just couldn't put my finger on what was different. Once I realized that it was the commitment that they had to the gospel that was making them so happy, I decided that I would start trying to better live my faith. Sure enough, I was feeling much happier, and that is why I live my faith through being an example. I'm not perfect, but as I strive to be an example of Christ's church, I hope that I can help somebody else in their life. Service is a huge thing for me. I love going out with friends and doing a service project every once and a while. Not only do I get to be with my friends, but I also have the opportunity to serve some of God's children and there are few things in this life that are more satisfying then helping out those in need.
