Hi I'm Erika Marks

I'm the third of four children. I'm a neurosciences major. I'm serving a mission in Texas. I love the mountains. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the third of four kids, and I love my family! I am an undergrad at BYU and plan on majoring in the neurosciences. However, I'm currently taking a break to serve an 18 month mission for the Lord in Texas! Born and raised in North Idaho, I love spending time outdoors, whether swimming, hiking, building snowmen, or jumping in leaves, I just can't get enough of being out and doing stuff! I love to both watch and play sports, and have a competitive streak (a trait I get from my great grandmother). I work as a server each summer at a local restaurant, and love meeting so many people each day as part of my job. I was valedictorian of my high school class, and intend to get my Ph.D and work as a professor and researcher. I also enjoy just watching movies or sitting down to a good book. At the end of the day, I love my family, I love my friends, and I love the prospects of so many more friends to be made.

Why I am a Mormon

The reason I'm a Mormon boils down to this: I've taken the time to read the Book of Mormon and pray, and I have felt the spirit witness to me that this church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, is true. I had the blessing of being raised in an LDS home, but have learned for myself that what I was taught is correct and true. I am Mormon because of a personal testimony that I know anyone can receive if they take the time to study and pray with pure intent. God answers prayers, and he communicates still with His servants on the earth. Thomas S. Monson is His servant and prophet today, and I know that he is truly God's mouthpiece on Earth. I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God and that Joseph Smith was a true prophet and translated that book of ancient records through the power of God. I am not Mormon because of my family, and I am not Mormon because anyone else told me to be. I am Mormon because of a personal conversion that happened, and continues to happen, through hours of prayer and study that have made me feel the Holy Spirit's peaceful confirmation that this church is Christ's church restored to Earth in modern times. I know He lives and loves each of us and that we can someday return to live with Him.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith in every aspect of my life, I want to live so that others can point to me and say, "She's different. What makes her tick?" The answer: my faith in Christ and His restored church! I am currently serving a full time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and am loving it! Women serve for a year and a half, rather than the two years men serve, but our responsibilities while out are the same, and I will spend the next 18 months of my life serving others and teaching them about Christ's church on the earth today. When younger, I served as a youth leader in my church youth group, and spent a lot of time helping the other young women. I have also served as a chorister for the weekly church meetings and have been an active participant in planning activities both large and small. I live my faith by being the best that I can be. I participate actively in church and associated activities, I loved going to my brother's football games, and I try to be nice to everyone I have the opportunity to interact with. I strive to follow Christ's example in every part of my life, and that means actively looking to serve in anyway you can.
