Hi I'm Sarah

I just finished my freshman year at BYU and am so excited to serve in the Philippines Bacolod Mission for the next 18 months!

About Me

I'm from Virginia and just completed my freshman year at BYU. I'm looking in to majoring in elementary education or mechanical engineering, but for the next 18 months I'll be putting school temporarily on hold as I serve the Lord in the Philippines Bacolod mission speaking Hiligaynon! I have 3 older brothers, a younger sister, and 2 incredible parents. My mom is a convert to the church and one of the reasons I am so excited to serve a mission is that I can not wait to share the gospel and bless people's lives just like 2 elders did 20 years ago for my family. I love skiing, baking, reading, writing, crafting, running, community service, intramural sports, hanging out with friends, playing with puppies, and basically everything else fun.

Why I am a Mormon

I am one of the lucky people fortunate enough to grow up in the gospel. My mother converted after my second brother was born, and my father has yet to join, though he supports our decision to live the gospel. I am a Mormon because the knowledge of the gospel brings so much joy to my life. The hope brought by knowing that Jesus Christ atoned for my personal sins and pains along with everyone else's so long ago blesses my life each and every day. What a privilege to know that when I make a mistake, I can be forgiven because the price has already been paid. Though I am far from perfect, through the atonement I can once again become clean and worthy to stand in the presence of my Heavenly Father. I know that I lived with all of you as a heavenly being in the premortal existence. I was chosen to come to Earth at this exact time because Heavenly Father knows that I am strong enough to overcome the trials I will be faced with and that He has a divine purpose for me. I know that Heavenly Father loves each of his children so much that he created the Plan of Salvation, making it possible for all of us to one day return to and live with him forever. I have a testimony that Joseph Smith was a true prophet and he restored the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to the Earth. I know that The Book of Mormon is a true book of scripture given to us as a second account of Jesus Christ that adds to the Bible. I know that President Thomas S. Monson is a true prophet living on the Earth today who is able to receive revelation from God to all of us. I know this church is the only true church on the Earth today. I know that if you come unto Christ with your burdens, he will make them light. The worth of souls (mine, yours, and everybody else's) is GREAT in the sight of God. We are all so important in His great plan. The gospel has brought meaning and happiness to my life and I want to share it with everybody! I am a Mormon because I don't know where I would be without the gospel.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by making it as large a part of my daily life as possible. When I was in high school I attended an early morning gospel study class before school every day. While attending BYU I took 2-4 religion credit hours per semester, studying scripture and other religious topics. On a regular basis I live my faith by striving to be an example of Christ in word and action. I don't swear, cheat, lie, steal, or wear immodest clothing. I try my hardest to not gossip and instead work to build those around me up, instead of tearing them down. I choose friends that have similar standards as mine who won't pressure me to do things I feel uncomfortable with. On Sundays, I keep the Sabbath Day holy by avoiding hanging out with friends or playing sports. My Sunday centers around attending church with my family where I take the sacrament to renew the covenants I made back when I was baptized. I attend gospel doctrine and relief society and strive to fulfill my church callings to the best of my ability. I have found that I am a million times happier when I focus my time and energy into serving others. Whether it be finding ways to include someone who seems lonely or participating in a community event to raise money for a good cause, it feels so good to think outside of yourself and make a positive influence in somebody else's life. Other ways I live my faith is by reading my scriptures close to daily so that I can learn more about this incredible restored gospel. Just taking ten minutes out of my busy day to read the words of the Bible or the Book of Mormon gives me a boost of positive energy. This was a little long. In summary, I live my faith by trying to be like my Savior, Jesus Christ.
