Hi I'm Trent Bates

I grew up on a farm on the dry side of Washington state. I am an Eagle Scout, I love to create things and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a farm boy and a Boy Scout, I live on my dads farm in Washington where I'm until I leave for a mission in the West Indies. I enjoy sports of all kinds, but I lean more to ones involving a ball. Music is a big part of my life, I play trumpet, piano, and guitar. I also enjoy singing in my ward choir and with my family and especially with my cousin Kaleb. I graduated recently from Big Bend Community College with an AA in arts and science, I plan to major in engineering and minor in music. Family to me is a big thing (and not just because I have too many to remember all their names...) there is no one that I care more for than my immediate, extended, and otherwise adopted family (in other words friends close enough to be considered family) I feel blessed to have a great family and great friends, I have had many good examples of missionaries, love, and life in general. I enjoy Sundays, being able to attend church is a blessing beyond measure for me. It is a chance to reconnect with the spirit and realign my life with Christ, and it provides a much needed respite from the cares of the world. I am a student, I am a teacher, I am a leader, I am a sheep of the fold of Christ, and I Am a Mormon

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church and I have a several generations heritage in the church. I have ancestors that helped companies cross the plains into the Salt Lake valley. This is why I am in the church today, because of good decisions and examples of my ancestors. Today I am still a member because I have my own special conviction that this is where I am supposed to be. For me it was not an event but a gradual process and understanding felt by the spirit, concept by concept, precept by precept. Now for me the gospel is not just some beautiful unbelievable dream, it is a way of life.

How I live my faith

I participate in my community by being a scout and helping with flag ceremonies, service projects, and other general activities. I helped plan and build a 9/11 memorial at the library in my home town, and participated in the dedication by performing Taps on my trumpet. In high school I was a captain for football, basketball, and golf, also I was president of the high school band. At Big Bend CC I helped other students with mathematics by tutoring and running SI sessions. In church I participate in the ward choir, on occasion lead music, substitute teach primary classes, and I will be serving a mission in the West Indies soon.
