Hi I'm Nicola

I'm a mother of six beautiful children, a wife, one-to-one teaching assistant for the Deaf and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have spent 20 years being a full-time mum while volunteering in school. I am now a full-time one-to-one teaching assistant for the Deaf. I am a mum of special needs children and am passionate about inclusion and acceptance for all people with additional needs. I learnt British Sign Language to be able to communicate with my son and love teaching people to sign.

Why I am a Mormon

When I met the missionaries, I was already a Christian but I had a jigsaw and some of the pieces were missing. I would sit at Church and look at the pew Bible would think 'I HAVE to be missing something, there HAS to be more'. One evening I was on a prayer walk, where I'd walk and pray, that evening I stopped walking right outside the Church I worshipped at, I said to myself "come on walk" but a feeling inside me said "no, just wait a minute". Suddenly there were two Missionaries there, we spoke and I left with a Book of Mormon in my pocket. I had no intention of reading it, had accepted it out of politeness but I was most definitely not going to read it! The following evening when everyone was asleep I decided to watch a Christian programme on TV, however the worship had finished and the preacher was in full flow so I thought I'd look through the Book of Mormon so I could decide what to do with it. I read the first page by Joseph Smith and the first paragraph of the Introduction and then put it down. As I turned my attention back to the TV, the preacher paused for breath and then said "God wants a restoration of the everlasting Gospel" my heart did triple somersaults and double backflips and I knew then I was indeed holding the word of God. As I read the Book of Mormon and learnt about the Restoration and prayed, piece after piece of the jigsaw fell into place. I knew this is the truth I had been searching for and my faith grew deeper and stronger.

How I live my faith

I have been a member for less than a year but have found a home and a family in the ward. I was called initially as a Relief Primary Teacher but have recently been called as a Full-Time Primary Teacher teaching 9-10 year olds. I love this, I learn while I teach and I love how children see things so uncomplicated. I teach the children in Primary to sign to songs and have signed a song at a talent evening the church held.
