Hi I'm Iris Okelberry

I grew up in New Mexico. I love to cook and bake, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I come from a Latin background and grew up in the Mexican culture. I was raised by my mom, grandma, and grandpa. I am the youngest of two and have always looked up to my older sister. I recently finished my first year at Brigham Young University, where I learned and grew both intellectually as well as spiritually. As of right now I am a Special Education major with an emphasis in minor to moderate disabilities with a minor in dual language. I have had the privilege of being a member my entire life and I am so blessed to have the true gospel in my life. I'm grateful to my family and friends for their wonderful love and support, they truly have helped shape me into the woman I am today. I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve in the Canada Toronto Spanish speaking mission and I look forward to share the gospel with the wonderful people of Canada.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have a testimony of this gospel. I have a strong testimony of Christ. I know that He is the Son of God. My personal, Savior and Redeemer. I know that He died for us so that we can return to live with Him. I know that Joseph Smith restored the true church on the earth today, I know that Thomas S. Monson is the prophet who leads and guides this church today. I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God as long as it is translated correctly and it is. I am grateful to know that I am a daughter of God and he loves and knows me personally and intimately as he knows each of you the same way. I know we are given trials that only we can handle and are strong enough to handle, because he is with us every step of the way.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by being an example to those around me. All my life I attended schools where my sister and I were the only few members, so because of this I had many opportunities to share the gospel and my testimony of the gospel with friends and classmates. I live my faith by striving to keep God's commandments and be like my Savior, Jesus Christ everyday. I attend church meetings regularly. I read and ponder the words in the scriptures, and I say my prayers every morning and night.
