Hi I'm Aileen

I grew up in the beautiful North Island on one of the safest and serene places on Earth.. New Zealand! And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I absolutely love being with my husband and 3 daughters aged 20, 19, 16 and 1 son aged 10. I enjoy talking and laughing with my children while my 'more sensible husband' kicks back and pretends like he can't hear us, mission impossible because we can get pretty loud :-) I am the chairperson for our school board and I really enjoy being around the children there. I have spent quite a bit of time teaching the children at our school about the Maori Culture and I taught them some songs and a Haka that they performed for their parents at the end of year concert, everyone was so happy, and that makes me happy (my people are the indigenous people of New Zealand, the Maori). I enjoy art, photography, crafts, music, singing and dancing just for the fun of it. I am a self taught guitarist, seamstress, hairdresser, cook and have even learned to be quite handy with all sorts of tools and built my own decks and fences for our home. In other words I'm a jack of all trades who'll give anything a try. While my husband is off at work, Sometimes you'll find me tinkering around in our back shed. Quite frankly, I LOVE MY LIFE.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised to know of my fathers religion so I've always been aware that there was a God, but I was taught to fear God, for He will punish you for not being perfect. My family didn't go to church, my siblings were affiliated with gangs and violence was prevalent in my family. I was in a bad place in my life. When I was 20 my life was changed forever. My mothers family are Mormons, one day I was given a choice to either go with my cousins who weren't Mormons who used alcohol to "have fun" or stay and watch the "Mormons" at their dance. I felt compelled to stay, as I watched them dance and have fun without alcohol I was overcome. I heard a voice in my mind and I felt it in deep in my heart, it said "Go to church now". Amazingly all of the addictions I had been trying to overcome by myself were suddenly gone and I was free to do what the Lord told me to do. I went to the Mormon church that week, I learned that my Heavenly Father is a God of love who is always there for me. He sent His son Jesus Christ to live a perfect life and then die for me. They want me to live with them in heaven again. When I come unto Christ and keep the commandments I will be happy in this life. If things get hard or when I make mistakes I can turn to Heavenly Father ask to be forgiven and He will be there for me. And when my life on earth is over, I can be with them and my wonderful family again. I now know and truly feel deep and lasting happiness. And these are some of the reasons why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I've had the great blessing of being asked to serve and teach every age group I can think of during my time as a member of this wonderful church. I've helped to teach little children from 18 months old how much Jesus loves them, and the beautiful things Heavenly Father has done for them. One of my favorite lessons included bringing a rabbit for them to see one of the creatures Heavenly Father created for them. I taught our young women aged from 12 to 17 years. One of my favorite lessons was when I had one girl blindfolded and another in a wheel chair and one who wasn't able to speak during class so they were able to appreciate how blessed they were and how courageous disabled people are in their lives. Last of all I served women aged from 18 and the oldest sister I served was in her 90s.  My husband currently serves as a leader in our area of the church to a membership of about 2000 people. To support my husband we travel as a family to visit the members of the church in 9 different areas. We love doing this and really enjoy seeing so many people come unto Christ and finding the joy that we have as they follow His commandments. However, I feel the most important way that I can live what I believe is by loving my God and learning of Him and strengthening my relationship with Him through personal and family prayer and fasting, reading the scriptures, and keeping the commandments and promises I have made with Him as I serve His children, my husband and my children. This is how I live and love my faith.

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

I know through experience that when I pray and ask Him to comfort me I feel His love all around me and I feel a deep sense of peace and warmth within my body that I know I didn't put there. I read the Scriptures and the testimonies of prophets and other sacred books, and I pray some more. I love that He keeps calling to me to come to Him, and He wants me to speak with Him through prayer. I know He wants me to be with Him again, because I feel his love when I pray. He wants all His children to be with Him and calls to all of us. Show more Show less
