Hi I'm Jean Slocombe

I am a grandmother, a puppeteer and I am going to India on a mission. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a "Baby Boomer". I grew up at a time when kids played outside 'til your Mom hollered out the door for you. We didn't have a TV or a car until I was 7 years old. I developed a vivid imagination that led me to a love of drama and writing and puppeteering and reading. I love my grandkids.I love serving others in the Church and the Community.I will be on a mission to India for 18 months.

Why I am a Mormon

I learned about Jesus and the Bible growing up attending a Christian Church. As a teenager I felt a longing to know more about things of faith and how to live as a person who believed in Jesus Christ. Friends shared the restored gospel with me and I began to make commitments to my Heavenly Father. After two years of investigation I was baptized. Living the gospel has brought me such happiness and purpose in life! I married a young man who served a mission for the church in France. We have raised our family in the Church. It has given us direction and values Personally, I rejoice to know that Jesus has organized his Church in the latter days, sent prophets to guide us and revealed eternal truths through the scriptures. I feel a great spirit as I read the Bible, the Book of Mormon, and other latter-day scriptures. Being a Mormon has given me a life abundant in the things of God. I have learned that I depend on the love and atonement of Jesus Christ for my salvation. My testimony is my most valuable possession.

How I live my faith

I believe in living my faith by serving others. I have taught every age group at Church and I especially loved teaching teenagers about the Gospel before school each day for many years. Visiting and helping others in the Women's group has been part of my life since I joined the Church 43 years ago. I have volunteered at my children's schools as a drama coach, librarian and on the parent council. In the Community I have worked with other organizations in food kitchens and relief efforts. I belong to a group of women who help grandmothers in Africa to raise the Aids orphans. I am thrilled to leave soon to serve a Mission in India with my husband.
