Hi I'm Leah

I'm a music teacher, an opera singer, a mom of three awesome kids, and I'm a mormon.

About Me

First and foremost I am a wife and mom to an amazing family. We are super musical. My husband plays classical guitar, organ, and piano. I trained as an opera singer, still sing some, but teach classroom music 2 days a week at a challenging inner-city secondary school to help pay the bills. The other 5 days a week I take care of my family and teach piano and voice lessons from home. My husband and I speak Russian and love that we have a secret code language that our kids don't understand. I also love traveling (bit tough with little ones), reading and cooking.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because of a lifetime of experiences. Alot of times people who know me think I am a Mormon simply because its how I was raised. But it is a lot more than that. I would be untruthful to deny that my upbringing had nothing to do with my faith, but there came a time when I could have chosen another path away from the faith of my childhood. I am a Mormon because I read the Book of Mormon and I prayed to Heavenly Father and I recieved an answer that the church was true. That the Book of Mormon is true. That Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. I had the opportunity to strengthem my testimony when I served a full-time misson in Novosibirsk, Russia for 18 months. I also had my testimony seriously strengthened again when I met my husband and he was not of my faith. I doubted myself seriously when I felt that I should marry him. The Lord revealved to me that it was the correct thing to do and that I was to be patient with him and all would be well. Patience was not my strongest virtue, but I listened to the Lord and watched my sweetheart gain a testimony. I watched as he became a member of the church and began to grow in confidence in all aspects of his life. His conversion strengthened my testimony and now we walk hand in hand in faith together.

How I live my faith

I love Sundays! I have the wonderful opportunity to serve in the primary organization of the church. This means I get to teach children from the age of 18 months to 12 years old. I really enjoy preparing, teaching and learning from the children in our primary. Every week I spend time reading, thinking about and preparing to teach the children. This sometimes includes things such as making object lessons, devising games and others ways to help the children remember the important principles we are trying to teach them. I also love teaching my own children about our faith. We read the scriptures and pray together every night. They won't let us miss a night! We also hold a family home evening on Monday nights, where we discuss and learn about whatever we think is a hot topic in our house. Recently we have been talking about prayer and how and why we should pray to our Heavenly Father.
