Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church, which means that my parents were active LDS members at the time I was born. It may seem obvious, then, why I'm a member, but seeing that I'm now an adult and independent, there must be a reason why I'm still an active member of the LDS church? . . . well there is. In my early teens, I realized that at some point I would need to know for myself that the LDS church was the true church of Jesus Christ. Up until that time, I had relied on my parent's convictions and faith to carry my own. Not long after that realization, I attended a large LDS youth gathering in Provo, UT. For the first time in my life, I was directly challenged to pray to know if the Book of Mormon was true, and consequently that the LDS church was the church that Jesus Christ himself had established. When I prayed, I felt the Holy Ghost tell me that it was true through an unmistakable feeling of peace, love, and comfort. I moved on from that experience knowing that Jesus Christ is my Savior, and that the LDS Church is indeed His church. As simply as I can put it, when I live the gospel of Jesus Christ as revealed through the restoration of His church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, I am happy and at peace.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith everyday at home, work, and church. My goal is to be consistent with what we like to call the basics: pray, read scriptures, go to church, and serve others. In my specific ward (congregation), I'm currently responsible for overseeing the men's organization. Some of the ways that I serve in that capacity include asking others to serve in different roles, organizing home teaching, getting to know individuals, participating in/organizing ward activities, etc. I'm also a home teacher. I try to be a good home teacher by acting as if the Home Teaching Program were called "Be a Friend Program". I try to become a friend to the individuals in the ward that I home teach.
