Hi I'm Halie

Utah is my only home. I love Harry Potter; I think of myself as a "half-blood mormon". My mom is LDS but not my Dad.

About Me

I'm an American and the only time I watch sports is when the Olympics are on. I'm a very big nerd. I love going to college and watching "The Big Bang Theory". I'm kind of a tree hugger. I love this beautiful earth God has given us and I enjoy hiking and camping. I love flowers and animals, especially dogs. I am a big fan of Harry Potter and the boy band One Direction (silly, I know). I'm also an artist. I love looking at art, all kinds of art: paintings, sculpture, architecture, interior decoration. I also make art; my preferred medium is watercolor with pen and ink. I love to laugh and I like people who do too.

Why I am a Mormon

It was difficult growing up in a home where both parents did not share the same faith. There is an unspoken rule in my family's house and that is religion is to never be discussed. But when my mother married my father she stood her ground and told him that she will take their children to church every week and she did. Never once were we inactive in the church. However, that was really the only Mormon activity my sisters and I got to do. We never had "Family Home Evening", family prayer and scripture study, etc. My mother never forced us to be Mormons though. I have always looked up to my mother for living the gospel and it was her example that I tried to live by. I told my mother that I wanted to be baptized when I was 8. And now that I am almost 21, I am again following in her footsteps and going on a mission to share my faith that I love with strangers.

How I live my faith

I go to church with people who are my age; anywhere between 18 and 30. It's what's called a "Youth Single Adult" ward. How I help out in my ward is that I design the newsletters and flyers that are passed out every month in church that contain uplifting messages and upcoming activities. My absolute favorite way to live my faith is to learn about it. In High School and in college the church provides free classes for its members to take. There are classes about the Book of Mormon, New Testament, Old Testament, Doctrine and Covenants, teachings of the living prophets, world religions, etc.

What do Mormons believe is the purpose of life?

Halie
The purpose of life is to one day become like our Heavenly Father. We were sent to this earth to obtain a physical body much like the one He has. He has given us the freedom to choose to between Him and Satan. All things in life happen for a reason and they are meant to help us become more like Him. We are to grow and learn every day of our lives. But we can't always do it alone, that is why we have families. We must learn to love and grow our families and then one day be reunited with them again in the world to come. Show more Show less

Who chooses the Mormon prophet?

Halie
Christ is the head of this church and therefore he is the one that chooses the next prophet. A prophet has two councilors, they make up what's called the First Presidency. Following the First Presidency are twelve apostles. When a prophet dies, the First Presidency dissolves and whichever man has been an apostle the longest is the next prophet. It is not necessarily the man who is the oldest. Show more Show less
