Hi I'm Cathleen

I grew up in Portland Oregon. I am a city raised cowgirl and a black belt. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently serving a mission for the LDS church and I am thrilled at the opportunity. This means I'm currently taking a break from school but I have chosen to study therapeutic recreation so that I can help others gain life skills and confidence in their abilities. I love riding horses and mostly did gymkhana or western gaming. I also study martial arts and have earned my black belt. As part of my martial arts training I have the opportunity to teach the other students and I have found that I love teaching and connecting with people. Watching them grow and overcome a struggle has to be my favorite thing. It's because of this that I decided I wanted to go into therapeutic recreation; because through it I will be able to help people change their lives while doing something they love.

Why I am a Mormon

I always felt good in Church and I always felt like it was a good thing but I never took the time to seek if it was right. So I read the Book of Mormon with the plan to ask if it was true and then I prayed to God to know if it was right. I felt such a sense of peace and comfort and I just knew that this was the true Church of Jesus Christ. I came to know that God wants to talk to me personally and that He will, if I take the time to ask and listen. I have continued to draw closer to God and to Jesus Christ. I have come to feel the power of the Atonement, which is the power that Christ has to forgive me of my sins and to give me strength because He died on the cross for me. I have felt His forgiveness and I have felt His love so strongly that at times I am overwhelmed with the beauty of it. It is amazing to me that I can be clean from the things that I have done wrong and that I can be given strength to continue forward. This Church teaches of Christ's gospel and brings to light the full power of the Atonement and helps me to access that power. Without the knowledge and strength that I get from being part of this Church I think I wouldn't have as much hope that I do now. That's why I am a Mormon. Because by being a Mormon I have come to realize the truly infinite love that Christ has for me and that I can have access to that love no matter what.

How I live my faith

The biggest way I have chosen to live my faith is by serving a mission and reaching out through service and love to others. Before I went on my mission I was involved in the church's women's program. I was in a leadership role and helped planned service activities and reach out to those who were struggling or in need of comfort. Part of being a member of the women's program is to individually befriend and serve two or three other women and I have been blessed by that opportunity. For me the gospel is all about love and reaching out to others. Jesus Christ taught by His example that people are paramount to anything else. I live my faith by helping others; talking to them, listening, serving, and laughing. It is always important to be a friend and there are many opportunities in the Church to become friends. It has been a wonderful blessing and I am grateful that I have been able to participate in the many activities and programs in the Church that bring me closer others.
