Hi I'm Max McCusker

I am currently serving a mission in the Anchorage, Alaska Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I love it!

About Me

I play basketball. I love the beach and the outdoors. I'm currently serving a mission in Alaska. Gotta love living in igloos and hunting bear for food. I like playing guitar and ukulele. I am currently learning how to Crochet, which is very therapeutic for the mind and body. I love my family. I am 1 of 7 kids and i would like to say that i have been stricken with middle child syndrome. Life is hard being the middle child, just kidding it's not too bad. Living in Southern California is pretty awesome, it's a wonderful place. After my mission I am planning on attending BYU and either going the Business route or possibly something with Finance. My plan is to do business with my dad and my grandpa and see where it goes from there. I have been overly blessed in my life with great opportunities and i hope i will be able to capitalize on them for future success. My brothers are my best friends, i look up to them a lot and i have learned a lot from them. My mission has been life changer for sure. If anyone is ever questioning going on a mission...my advice would simply be...GO! You will never regret the time invested to serve the Lord but you will always regret not going. It has shaped me into the person God needs me to be more rapidly then i could of ever thought. I still have so much work to do, obviously i'm not perfect, but it has helped me see the eternal perspective on things. I love being a missionary and i love being a Mormon!

Why I am a Mormon

I was actually born into the church but have spent my teenage years finding out for myself the truthfulness of the gospel. My mom is my hero. She married my dad who wasnt a member and took all 7 kids to church by herself. I've never had to take kids to church but from what i see it seems like a hard thing to do especially when the kids get a little crazy..and i know i probably gave my mom some trouble haha. No goldfish during sacrament=nightmare. But later in life when i was 8 my dad was baptized and 2 years later we went through the temple and were sealed for all time and eternity. I love my family and one of the main reasons why i am Mormon is that i know i can be together with them forever and that's something i want. My mission has helped me see the difference between joy in the gospel and happiness in the world. They are both so different and one is WAY better then the other, the better one being joy in the gospel. I know that this church has been restored by a prophet named Joseph Smith, i know that through my Savior Jesus Christ i can become whole and that i can live with my Father in Heaven again. This church is true, there is nothing else in this world that really matters more, even though sometimes we get distracted...im guilty! Another reason why i am Mormon is because i have read the Book of Mormon and prayed to know if it is true and by the power of the Holy Ghost i know it is true! It is honestly that simple. I am Mormon because as i serve a mission i really get to see how the church works and operates and i know without a doubt that it is lead by men who are called of God and inspired by Him. I know Christ is at the top and he is guiding the Church to where it needs to be just like it was patterned when He was here on the Earth. I feel the spirit so strong when i go to Church and as i have left, i feel a desire to be better and improve and i know those thoughts are from the spirit. It helps me be a better person and helps me to reach my full potential

How I live my faith

I live my faith, as of right now, by serving God for 2 years as a missionary. At first i thought it was a sacrifice but it has been cool to see how my view has now shifted to being privileged to serve God. Im learning everyday and im starting to realize how real the atonement is and how it can change lives. It has changed mine. My mission has been a life changer for me and i know it had been through the small and simple things i do every day. I love feeling the spirit work through me and it has been the greatest challenge to learn and recognize how the spirit speaks to me individually but it has been worth the diligent study and prayer. It will be something that will help my throughout the rest of my life. I try my best to follow the example of the Savior Jesus Christ. He has been my best resource and example of what i need to become. I have quickly come to realize that being perfect is extremely hard haha. One thing i have learned since my mission has been that God doesnt care about distance he cares about direction. He cares if we are trying. That's all that matters. I think of the terrible pain that Jesus Christ suffered in the Garden and also on the cross, i know for me, when i go through trials i usually want to sit down and give up. But looking at the Savior, after being tortured, laughed at, spit upon, and killed...He rose from the dead, He got back up and kept trying. I hope i can follow his example and utilize his Atoning sacrifice to lift me up when i go through trials myself. He promises us that he can give us rest. "In the world, there may be tribulation, but be of good cheer, for i have overcome the world." I know Jesus Christ is the Savior of the World. I know he loves each and every one of us and i live my faith by sharing that with others and by getting back up when life dropkicks me in the face...I love this Gospel, it brings me and others true joy.
