Hi I'm Alex

I was born in Derbyshire but raised in Essex, I studied and married in Manchester, I love music and sport, I'm a Mormon

About Me

An Essex boy in exile in Lancashire, I recently lost my wife who passed away through Pancreatitis. I have been a full-time carer for the past five years looking after my wife who struggled with chronic back problems. I also provide care, support and mentoring to three young adults as an Informal Foster Carer. I love my family and friends. I am a recent Law graduate having studied at the Open University. I love sport especially Football, Cycling, Hiking, Tennis & Badminton. I'm a musician and singer/songwriter. I like to keep busy and lead a full and active life.

Why I am a Mormon

Had anybody met me prior to 2004 they would have never believed that I would ever become a Mormon. In 2004 I met my wonderful wife who introduced me to the gospel. Having been a vehement atheist with no interest in faith or religion I playfully mocked my wife's beliefs. One summer's day we stood under clear azure blue skies in a lovingly maintained garden surrounded by beautifully majestic flowers and plants and my wife questioned 'how is all this possible without a Heavenly Father'? To which i responded with little emotion that it was 'all a process of evolution'. However that same day and experience was a turning point for me, something changed, an interest and intrigue developed within me from nowhere and over the coming weeks I decided to objectively inquire and investigate my wife's beliefs that I may more fully understand why it was so important to her. A lot of discussions and debates with my wife and the Missionaries and a huge dose of 'magic' from my Heavenly Father through the Holy Spirit later I decided to be baptised. I think initially I was baptised more on my wife's testimony of the gospel than my own, but as my knowledge and understanding grew and most importantly I took the opportunity to serve within the Church my own testimony flourished and I have never looked back. I love my wife and although she has sadly passed away from this mortal realm and we are temporarily parted I am eternally grateful for her example and leadership in bringing the light of the gospel into my life. She is why I am a Mormon and continually inspires me to live the principles of the gospel to the best of my ability that I may strive be a man of substance and value and bless the lives of others through my faith.

How I live my faith

Since being introduced to the gospel by my wonderful future wife and converting to the Church in 2004 I have been privileged to serve as a youth leader and also currently as a counsellor/assistant to our Bishop. I have learnt many life lessons during this time and have grown so much as a person in the service of others. I have developed a fuller understanding of the meaning of charity and service through the opportunities I have been given to help and assist those in need, both members of the Church and wider community . These experiences have enriched my life and have made me a better husband and father figure. I especially love working with the youth of the Church and recent converts as I can relate to their journey and witness the growth and development of their faith.

Are Mormons Christians?

We are Christians in the truest sense of the word. Our faith is absolutely centred around Christ and his teachings. We acknowledge and express gratitude for Christ as our Saviour and Redeemer and we pray, worship and serve in his name. We endeavour and strive to develop Christlike attributes and live by his example to the best of our ability. Show more Show less
