Hi I'm Karen

I grew up in Minnesota, became a high school teacher for 32 years, raised a daughter, and in my 40's I became a Mormon.

About Me

I am a retired teacher, a proud grandmother, a wife, a mother. Genealogy research is my favorite pasttime. I also enjoy various needlework, reading mysteries, music, picture puzzles, and seeing my grandchildren.

Why I am a Mormon

First, my brother was a member and had missionaries come to my home to teach me about the mormon church. It sounded wonderful. I didn't join right away. When I moved back to my home town, my home church made it hard to attend the service and to teach Sunday School. It felt uncomfortable. I started searching for something that gave me depth in my spiritual life by attending various churches in the area. One Sunday I decided to attend the mormon church service. The children sang and the message was sweet giving me a feeling of completeness that I so desired and hadn't felt for awhile. The missionaries came once again with lessons to help me grow and understand their church. Members came to visit me, helped me with my genealogy search, took my daughter to church meetings for the youth, and listened to my confusion with sound scriptural answers to guide me. As I searched and prayed, it became evident that the warm spiritual feeling I had was really the holy spirit moving within me. It was necessary for me to become baptized and be a part of this group of people who followed the scriptures as closely as they were humanly able. We were and are not perfect; but we were and are all seeking knowledge about what is important and doing our best to live according to the scriptures with the direction of a modern day prophet.

How I live my faith

Most of my life until I became ill, was involved with teaching Sunday School. I have served in various positions in both denominations: administrative board, choir, teacher, worship leader, various office positions in church organizations. Church activities were my social life and the center of my home. I belonged also to a number of professional organizations for teachers and college graduates. Because I understand computers, I help retired people learn to use the computer or the Internet.

What blessings can we receive through the gift of the Holy Ghost?

The Holy Ghost can bless your life with His guidance, His presence, His inspiration, and His protection. After baptism, we are confirmed with the Holy Ghost by a priesthood holder or a man who has the authority from God to perform this action. There is a hymn that is one of my favorites and describes how I feel with the Holy Ghost within me: "In The Garden". "He walks with me and he talks with me..." I don't need to feel alone.
