Hi I'm Sharena

I grew up all over the United States and have never lived in one place longer than three years. I am a Mormon.

About Me

Well I just completed my freshman year in college. I love college and everything I have learned so far. I am currently studying to become an elementary teacher because I love working with kids and teaching. My family currently lives overseas which has made it a little difficult with the distance but I loved my experience and the ones they are having. I spent my senior year of high school in Ethiopia and that was a life changing experience for me. I have learned how grateful I am for the blessings and education I have received. I feel that my eyes are more opened to what is important in life and that it has little to do with material possessions and more with the people I'm surrounded by. I definitely learned by living in Africa the things you can go without and how much I used to take for granted. I have been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all of my life and nothing has brought be the greatest happiness than being a member of this church. I just got called to serve a mission in Ukraine and I am looking forward for the opportunity to share the gospel.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have never felt such peace or happiness as I have when I study the Book of Mormon and attend my church meetings. I have come to learn for myself that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true. I may have grown up in this church but I have lived on my own at college for a year now and it has always been my decision to go. I was not forced by my parents to go but I went because I wanted to go. I love the knowledge that I gain by attending church. This gospel is something that has always made sense in my head and in my heart. I have read the Book of Mormon many times and I know it to be the word of God and another witness of Jesus Christ in addition to the Bible. I know that Joseph Smith cannot have made this up and therefore he was a true prophet that restored this gospel to the Earth in these last days. I know Thomas S. Monson is the living prophet today and he receives the modern day revelation to lead and guide this church. Temples are houses of God and we can go there to feel His Spirit and complete ordinances for our ancestors that they cannot do themselves. I know that I am a child of God and He listens to me as I pray and he knows me personally. Why am I a Mormon? Why not? When something feels so right and good, why not be a part of it. I am so grateful to be a member of this church because I cannot imagine my life without it.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith everyday through my example. Most of the high schools I attended I was one of the few members or it was just me and my sister, so I didn't have a big church support group. I felt like this made me stronger though. I attended an early morning scripture study class everyday before I went to school and when I lived overseas I did the same expect a home study program. I also was a youth leader in my young women's group for a year where I helped lead and plan activities for my youth group. When I lived in Ethiopia I also participated in the youth groups except I was a teacher for the young women there. Something I love about this gospel is that this is not a once a week church but something that you are always striving to improve and grow everyday. I am not near to being perfect and the people in the church are not perfect but it is the gospel of Jesus Christ that is perfect. We become perfected through Jesus Christ and this gospel as we strive to continue to live what we believe.
