Hi I'm Roger

I grew up in Southern California and Salt Lake City, Utah. I teach religion for the Church. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy golfing, reading, and teaching. Since moving to Arizona, I have picked up the hobbies of dutch oven cooking and woodworking. I have been married for over twenty years and have two children. I graduated with a bachelors degree in communications. After being hired as a teacher, I pursued and obtained a masters degree in educational leadership. Camping is one of our families favorite activities. We have particularly fond memories of camping on the beach in California for three summers when are children were young. I also enjoy doing projects around the house. This includes home repairs, upgrades, and remodeling.

Why I am a Mormon

I have chosen to keep the faith taught to me in my youth. By very careful study and through prayer, I have come to a sure knowledge that these things are true. During times of storm and trial, my faith as been an anchor to cling to. With the world shifting its' opinions and values, I am grateful for a faith that is solid and true. This faith answers all of the critical questions about the purpose of life which we all face. More than that, the truths of the Gospel are given so that very young children can understand these basic principles. And yet, those who choose to make a deep study of gospel principles are challenged by the scope of knowledge contained in the Church. I know the teachings of the Church to be true. They have stood the test of time. The Church will continue to roll forth because it is built upon the testimonies of individuals. People who have come to know of there truth.

How I live my faith

I teach religion for my Church. I teach young single adults who range in age from 18 years of age to 30 years of age. This is something I really enjoy. Currently I also serve in the Church by working with members who are mature adults. This includes those with families who have children in elementary school, all the way to couples who have grandchildren and great-grand children. I attend three meetings a week. In addition to this, with a companion, I visit the homes of members each month to see if they are doing well or if they need any assistance. I enjoy serving in the Church and seeking to help others.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Roger
At times all of us feel the need to be better. The mistakes we make cause us to lose our purity and we feel a decline in character. It is through the sufferings and death of Christ that we can return to a purified state of heart. Through thorough repentance, and by seeking the grace and forgiveness of our Savior, we can receive a remission of sin and be restored to peace of heart. Our knowledge of past misdeeds does not disapear. But, we have a knowledge of forgiveness and a confidence flowing from divine favor becasue we seek to do the will of our Heavenly Father. Jesus Christ takes our burden upon Him. That which He suffered in the Garden of Gethsemane and upon the Cross of Calvary makes this possible. This great miracle is offered to all people. He invites all to come unto Him. Because of the atonement, we can return to live with our Father in Heaven as purified families and receive a fulness of joy. Show more Show less
