Hi I'm Jared Smith

I'm the oldest of four. I like to collect hats. I've got big plans for the future. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm 21 years old, I was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, and am the oldest of four children. When I was five our family moved to Elk Grove, California and I have lived there from then till July 2013 when I left on my mission for the Church. I enjoy music, in Middle and High School I was part of the band and I love to play Jazz. I played the clarinet and the tenor and baritone saxophones. During my junior and senior years of high school I was part of the school broadcast team for technical support and was the lead video recorder/editor for the Football team. I graduated from Cosumnes Oaks High School in 2012. Before leaving for my mission I worked for Petco as the Aquatic Specialist. I am an Eagle Scout and I continued to serve my community's youth as a Den Leader in our local unit's cub scouts. Airsoft and Paintball are my main hobbies of which I played frequently with my friends and family. Besides those sports I enjoy listening to all types of music. I also enjoy camping, fishing, and hiking and plan to get more involved in hunting. My goals for after my mission is to join the United States Military and to study Criminal Justice. Another goal of mine is to have a family of mine own and to raise my children in a gospel centered home. The Church is very important to me and I know that the teachings of Jesus Christ and from His prophets (both biblical and modern) can help every and anyone who honestly wants to improve.

Why I am a Mormon

Though I may have been born into the church, I am a active standing member because through study and lots of prayer I have come to know for myself that this church is true. That Joseph Smith was a prophet and that President Monson is a prophet on the earth today. That the Book of Mormon is true. That our Father in Heaven loves us and has a plan of all of us to return to him someday. This and much, much more I want to share with you.

How I live my faith

I try to participate in Mormon Helping Hands every year that I can. I am a full time missionary in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Mission. And, before leaving for my mission I was a Primary teacher for the 7 year old youth and a Nursery Leader for children ages 3-5. My parents have taught me well in the importance of church attendance and in keeping the Sabbath day holy and the importance of living what we believe instead of just going to church one day a week and then forgetting God for the rest of the week. I know I have a lot to improve on even in the simple things like scripture reading and my prayers but I try my best to do better and be an example to my siblings. Repentance is something that we all need and I am so thankful for because I know I fall short but with the Savior's Atonement and Him willing to make up the difference with His grace and mercy I will be able to make it back to my Father in Heaven again. That alone I can not be thankful enough for!
