Hi I'm Jake Farris

I grew up in southwestern Idaho. I got married in the Boise, Idaho temple and now I have 5 children. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a very small farming community. My father is a farmer going on 35 years now. He and my mother have 8 children. They now also have 25 grandchildren. I have 5 brothers and 2 sisters. Growing up my parents were very involved in teaching their children the gospel of Jesus Christ. My siblings and I were very involved in athletics even into college for many of my brothers. My father taught me how to be a good worker. My mother always stayed at home and helped me with school and any other activities I was involved in. Like the prophet Nephi from the Book of Mormon, I have truly been born of goodly parents. After graduating from high school, I went to college for a couple years then I served a mission in the Carlsbad, California Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 2 years. When I got back home, I went back to college and then 11 months later I was already getting married in the Boise, ID temple. Now I'm happily married with 5 children of my own.

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints I had many experiences of feeling the power of the Holy Ghost witness to me the truthfulness of the church and the principles I was being taught there. When I turned 8 years old I was faced with the choice of getting baptized and confirmed a member of the church in which I would make a promise to God that I would keep his commandments "Ten Commandments" and remain faithful to the teachings of Jesus Christ all my life and in turn God would bless me with the constant companionship of the power of the Holy Ghost. I chose to become a member. Of course my parents wanted me to but it was always my choice and ever since that choice The Lord has blessed me with the constant power of the Holy Ghost as long as I was obedient to his teachings which I have continued to learn from study of the scriptures and the words of modern day prophets like our current prophet Thomas S. Monson and most of all daily prayer to God our Father in Heaven in the holy name of his only begotten son Jesus Christ. I know that if I will continue to draw near unto God then he will draw near to me. I know that God wants me to love everyone and to treat them kindly too.

How I live my faith

My life is spent in serving my family, friends, neighbors, and my ancestors. I work in the service tech industry. I serve as a leader in my church taking care of the nursery age children and teaching them the gospel of Jesus Christ every Sunday. I frequently help members of my church who are moving in or out of my area with loading and unloading their moving truck. I occasionally drive missionaries to their appointments in my area. I frequently go to my local temple with my wife and do work there for our ancestors. I visit a couple families at least once a month in which I have a responsibility as a priesthood holder in my church to befriend, help, and teach the gospel of Jesus Christ. My family and I clean our church building on a Saturday morning about once or twice a year when it is our turn. I sometimes work in a local cannery owned by my church that helps to feed the hungry. I play basketball with other men from my church and neighborhood. I go camping with my sons scout troop. I try to get to know all those I associate with and how I can best help them. I try to be a righteous example to all those whom I associate with.

To what do you attribute the growth of the Church?

Jake Farris
I know that the growth of the church is fulfilment of the many prophesies found in the scriptures by prophets like Daniel and Isaiah and many others. Show more Show less

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

Jake Farris
Just as the Bible was written by prophets like Moses, Isaiah, Peter, and John, the Book of Mormon was written by prophets that lived on the American continent. It is a record of the people that lived anciently there and it contains the words and commandments of God to them through the prophets of God. Some of the names of the prophets are Lehi, Nephi, Jacob, and Mormon. Mormon was the prophet that compiled together the records of all the other prophets into an abridged and shortened version and so the book was named after him. Show more Show less

What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

Jake Farris
A testimony is a knowledge that some one has of something given to them by either eye witness or some other witness. The best witness that we can receive knowledge from is the Holy Ghost. So when a "Mormon" speaks about how they have a testimony of the truth they are saying that they have received a witness from the Holy Ghost that whatever it is they are testifying of is for sure knowledge or truth. What do Mormons believe is the purpose of life?

What do Mormons believe about family?

Jake Farris
God created a man(Adam) and a woman(Eve) so that they would have children or in other words a family. Everyone longs to be part of a family. It is mankinds most innate or inherent trait. We want more than anything someone to love us. Not only do we all have a family here on earth, but we have an even bigger and greater family in heaven. God is our Father in Heaven and he loves us more than anyone else. I personally believe that we also have a Mother in Heaven who loves us equally as much as Father in Heaven. Show more Show less

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Jake Farris
No not at all. We are taught the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus said "love everyone". Show more Show less
