Hi I'm Elder Skylar McCray Starr

I love swimming, I hope to be a doctor, and I will be serving in the Scotland/Ireland Mission for two years and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I love the TV show Psych! My favorite food is Italian, and I LOVE chicken. I swam in high school, my events were the 200 IM, the 500 free, and 100 breast. I miss it so much! I lived in Arizona and I love the heat. I am serving a mission in Scotland and Ireland for 2 years and I am sooo excited to serve the Lord and those people! When I return, I hope to go to school to become a doctor in the medical field, but I am still thinking about which part of the medical field to go into. I am so interested by life!

Why I am a Mormon

Living His gospel makes me happy. That is the simplest way I can put it. I have been down a road where I don't live the gospel fully, and I was not happy. I came back, and I am the happiest person I have ever been! That is why I chose to serve a mission, because I know that living the gospel of Jesus Christ will make everyone happy, and if I can do anything to help someone receive the same happiness that I have, then it feels right. I love this gospel and I know it is true!

How I live my faith

I am always doing my best to be sure to read the scriptures and words of the prophets when I can, to learn everything I can about the gospel. I am serving a mission in Scotland and Ireland until July 2015 and I'm here to help others receive the peace and happiness that I feel from living the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Right now I'm in Falkirk, Scotland, and I am loving every second of it! Serving a mission has been the best thing to ever happen to me. As promised in my call letter, I've gained a stronger testimony of the Restoration of the fullness of the gospel, and I've also been able to be a part of other people's lives and see them make the same decisions to come closer to Jesus Christ. When I return home I plan on doing everything I can to continue to help others along that path, and of course, live the gospel that I've come to know to be true.

What is the priesthood?

Elder Skylar McCray Starr
The Priesthood is the authority to act in God's name. During the early church, the Apostles and other leaders of the church were given the Priesthood. It meant that they had the right, or the authority, to lead the church on the earth. By that same power, the Apostles were able to perform miracles, according to their faith and the faith of others. All males who are worthy and of the appropriate age can hold the Priesthood. Because of this, many people think that that automatically means they have some sort of special power. That is not true. To explain it better, we could say that a man who holds the priesthood is like a man opening the curtains to lighten up the room. When a man practices the priesthood worthily, he is the one who "opens the curtains" to bring light into the dark room. He is there to let in those priesthood blessings into other's lives.
