Hi I'm Marty

I love sports. I love to solve problems. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I plan to be an engineer someday to put my my love for problem solving to a test. My whole life I have loved figuring out why things (equations and objects) work the way they do, and loved the satisfaction of completing challenging problems from what I have learned. For this reason, I love being a math and physics nerd! On the complete other side, I love to challenge myself physically as well as mentally. I have participated in so many different sports in my life just to learn more about and gain the gratification of overcoming that challenge. I have played baseball, soccer, raced swim team, triathlon, cross-country, track (long jump, triple jump, 100 meter dash), pole vault, and cycling team. All of which I enjoyed for many different reasons! One of the few on that list that I have really enjoyed is the triathlon. And I hope to someday take on the challenge of completing an Ironman Triathlon (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and 26.2 mile run (a marathon)). I am very excited for this challenge and cannot wait for the rewarding feeling upon completion, because it is a challenge and that is what gains my satisfaction: proving to myself that I can complete something hard and push through all of the doubts and discouraging thoughts along the road to completion!

Why I am a Mormon

There are many people in the world that would just assume that I am in the church because I was born into the church, haha I guess that you could say this is only partially true. I believe that if I was not born into this church, then maybe I wouldn't be in the church at this point in my life simply because I had not found it yet. What I do know is that one of the greatest things about this church is that we believe in the gift of agency, which is the ability to make any decision we choose whether the consequences be good or bad. We are not forced to do anything in our church. So in this time in my life, if I did not want to, I would not have to be a member. I have made the decision to stay a member and continue in the gospel because I have learned for myself that it is true. To be completely honest it was not any one moment that lead me to this decision. It was promptings here and there and just little nudges in the right direction from the spirit that has helped inspire me to its truth. It was just all of the little puzzle pieces throughout my life coming together to make the big picture to gain my testimony. For this and much more is why I love to be and am a Mormon!

How I live my faith

In my church it is a goal of many of the young men and some of the young women to serve a 2 year mission. I have decided to take up the challenge and leave my family, friends, and life for 2 straight years and dedicate it to my savior to help bring others to him. I also have been able to participate in a youth program. Every week we get to meet together with young men and women my same age and form great relationships! These have been so great for me and the people I have met have been such inspirations to me and become life long friends of mine. I love how I get to live my faith in my church.
