Hi I'm Sarah

I "taught for America." I'm a mom. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in political science in 2007. While in college, I worked various jobs including as a sales associate, nanny, janitor, dispatcher and restaurant manager! After college I worked as a loan processor and then as a teacher through the Teach for America program. Today I am a stay-at-home mom to two little girls. I love reading, DIY projects for the house, and baking.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints but have had many opportunities to examine my beliefs throughout my life. In the end, I've chosen to be a member of the LDS church for a few simple reasons. Jesus Christ taught, "Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them," and in my life, this has been a simple way to determine the correct course of action in every situation. The doctrine of the world today is that whatever feels good to you is right and that you are entitled to follow your desires irregardless of the consequences to you or others. This false teaching has many devastating consequences to individuals, families and friends. The fruits of the gospel of Jesus Christ are love, peace, joy, and certainty, while the teachings of the world offer hate, conflict, misery and fear. I have directly experienced this in my own life. When I follow God's commandments as revealed by His modern prophets, I feel a spiritual witness that He is pleased with my efforts and that I am following His plan for me. This spiritual witness cannot be described in words but can be felt by any earnest seeker of truth who is willing to do as James recommends and "...ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." I have indescribable gratitude for my Savior, Jesus Christ, for as a covenant member of His church on the earth today He has promised to lead me and to advocate for me in this life and the next. My comfort and joy that the beloved family relationships I have will endure beyond this world surpasses my ability to explain. The Savior's hand of mercy is outstretched to me and everyone and He has always stood by me and offered me peace in the most difficult circumstances. He taught, "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid," and I have personally accepted His promise and been comforted in every trial.

How I live my faith

While I taught in high-poverty schools I was able to help the children I taught to learn academically and to understand the importance of making choices that would benefit them immediately and in the future. It was really challenging, but the love that I felt for my students made every minute worth it. I'm currently serving as the president of our congregation's children's program. I love teaching the children and helping them feel the love of Jesus Christ. I also enjoy serving as a visiting teacher and have found a source of power and inspiration teaching and sharing testimonies and experiences with other women.
